Just got this e-mail:

Elton John will celebrate his 60th birthday on Sunday, March 25 performing at Madison Square Garden for an audience of fans, friends, and celebrities. This one-time musical event will also mark his 60th concert at the venue, breaking his own house record!

Elton John will be performing with his long-time band, Davey Johnstone on guitar; Guy Babylon on keyboards; Bob Birch on bass guitar; John Mahon on percussion; and Nigel Olsson on drums. For a select number of songs Elton will be joined onstage by a full choir.

The legendary career of Elton John has spanned more than three decades. By all measures, he is one of the world's most successful touring artists and one of the top-selling solo artists of all time. Elton John has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, with 29 consecutive Top 40 Hits and 35 gold and 25 platinum albums.

American Express cardmembers can buy tickets on January 22 @ 9:00am through January 28 at 9:00pm, before the general public on January 29 @ 9am.

There is no way Elton won't be in town that weekend. How about a big showing on the 24th? The first Saturday last year, they had Frampton and Rossington, two HUGE names - why not put in another HUGE name for this year on the first Saturday? How awesome would the following be with Elton:
Love Lies Bleeding / Funeral For a Friend
Levon
And abunch of others I can't think of right now, but still, Elton is the man.

I honestly could never see Elton sitting in with the ABB, nor want to even speculate or imagine that.

Here's the list from his Greatest Hits album:
1. Your Song
2. Daniel
3. Honky Cat
4. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
5. Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting
6. Rocket Man
7. Bennie And The Jets
8. Candle In The Wind
9. Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me
10. Border Song
11. Crocodile Rock

Bennie And The Jets, anyone?

Off topic but, Elton's yellow brick album was cool. But when it comes to songwriting, Billy Joel has surpassed Elton.

I don't remember getting this nauseus since the rumor Cher was going to come out and sing with Gregg, and the Brothers in the late '70's

Elton is fine..at an Elton John Concert!1
Although..seeing Warren do Madman across the water, solo, at the Bottom Line NYC was incredible!

I love that album, but can't say I need to hear it during an ABB show.

If Elton were to sit in and play an ABB song like Jessica, I could go for that.
He's definately no slouch playing the piano.
Hey I dug Liberace, what can I say.

Agreed. The Gov't Mule (10/22/99 Cafe Tomo, Arcata, CA) covered Madman Across The Water. I was there and it was amazing.

Billy Joel surpassing Elton. Not in any world I live in. Elton carried him for a couple of tours. Elton has much more talent than Billy could ever dream of.

Not that I couldn't come up with better guests but Elton would suprise many. Elton is more than capable and also started with the blues just like all the others.
