Jim,

Is Tobacco Road that bar in NYC that is owned by some guys who went to UNC? I heard about it, if this i the bar I'm thinking about. A lot of ACC'ers who migrate to NYC hang out there.

Chris. No, this place was opened by a friend of mine who is from New York. He basically went out of business because insurance costs got so high and he really couldn't compete with the bigger venues. He has since opened a restaurant in White Fish, MT.

The musicians loved to play there because he put no restrictions on them. It only held like 150 people. I saw a great DTB show in there, as well as several Marc Ford performances. The acts seemed to take to the owner because he pretty much let them play until they wanted. I can remember being in there and Marc Ford sitting on the stage at 5AM playing his guitar to about 4 of us.

I am a long time Dead fan like many (I think) here. I will only comment on his singing here, as his guitar playing and songwriting I always liked. I don't remember it so much in the earlier shows I saw (77 was my 1st show) but now I pick up on him singing ahead of the music almost all the time. It seems like every lyrical sentence is finished by him before the music gets there. I find it SOOOOOOOO irritating that I almost always turn him off now. I have XM, so many tunes of him singing come on often. Anyone else even notice this?

I like him..... Very good singer and foil for Jerry's playing...not a bad songwriter either....

Love the Dead, but dont care much for Bobby. My opinion of him has steadily gone downhill the last few years..

Not much of a singer, half way decent guitar player, there was a point in the early 70s, Garcia wanted to fire Bob from the band for being able to play at the level Garcia wanted him to.
I've lost alot respect for Weir as of lately (guess, I never had that much too start with, even though I admire how he tends to forgot the words to Truckin' all the time) - tired of reading about him complaining about the downloads.

I like Bob. Although the Grateful Dead WITH Jerry had something that cannot be replaced I've enjoyed many a Ratdog, Other One's, and Dead concert and I've got some ACE stuff in my vinyl collection....Cassidy!

i think Ratdog has become a tight and terrific band and i think they are one of the better touring jambands around....Weir may or may not be a great guitar player or great singer but he has written a ton of great songs,he puts on great long show and it is great fun to see him...btw i will be there to see a couple of his shows in march at the beacon as a warmup to rhe Allmans...

Mutual feelings about Ratdog. I've seen the Dead, and all the side projects born from the band. I personally enjoy Ratdog very much. I think that over the last several years, they have truly evolved into a tight knit groovin' band. Bob has like, over 40 years of experience in the jam band scene, somewhat helping create the very scene, IMO. Bob was never the lead guitar player, even currently. He can come away with a few good riffs, but his job is sometimes to 'play the same chord over and over again', as mentioned previously. As a musician, he is 'right up there' in my book.

For what it's worth....

PEACE.
