I can do without just about everything before "Help." That is the album/song where they started to transform from pop stars into true musical artists.

I've always thought "Within You Without You" was George's finest Beatle song. Different strokes for different folks, as they say...

A lot of their earlier stuff and Back in the USSR and You Say It's Your Birthday... the only two songs I hate on the White Album.

Holy Jeez, PENNY LANE, is that song retarded or what?

Octopus's Garden, YUCK, yeah I know a Ringo vocal, sorry.

Maxwell's Silver Hammer, how does this crapola follow Come Together??????

Lovely Rita, another retarded tune.

Paperback Writer. YUCK

Lady Madonna, YUUUUUUCK.

How many insipid Paul McCartney vocals does one need, not to mention 2/3'rds of the Wings catalogue of songs. Yes, that's harsh but bubble gum loses it's flavor over time.

And I could say the same thing about a bunch of the John's songs but the truth is he usually had some big idea behind one of his weird songs. Slamming John without understanding his songs wouldn't be quite fair. But with Paul and Penny Lane it's kind of a no brainer as the song is a no brainer.

Anyway, sorry WharfRat, I can take or leave a lot of Beatles, and the solo lps by the band members. It wasn't or isn't all GENIUS. A lot of it is simple junk.

I had a feeling a thread on this topic was going to show up.

Everyone has their opinion. I realize not everyone likes the Beatles.

Truly there are only two songs that I dont like. Revolution 9 and the Spectorized version of The Long and Winding Road. I love the Bootleg versions of it better. This can be had on Let It Be Naked album now.

Dean I dont want to get into a pissing match. But when you can write SIMPLE JUNK like they can then you can critique them so harshley! Until then just stick with I dont care for them. I will even take I think they suck.

And for the record the Beatles were very innovative. They did a lot of firsts in the music industry.

Couldbn't disagree more. Penny Lane is one of the Beatle's greatest songs. Try listening to what's going on behind the vocals. It's an example of musical genius.

I'm a huge fan ... early, middle, late, or solo. I like
about 95% of everything I ever heard by them.
Everyone has an opinion... "simple junk" is one of
them to be sure. Time will tell what their place in
musical importance will be. I believe they'll go down
in history with the great classical composers...and
their work will still be appreciated centuries from now.

I just answered an email. I was thinking I should post to the Beatles thread and say "Robert/CupofJo, now don't start acting like someone died."

Look, I don't care for a LOT of the Beatles' music. Some of you are offended deeply the very same way I get CUT when people RIP the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band.

I just got a Lynyrd Skynyrd DVD of the band at the Convention Center, Asbury Park, NJ 7.13.77. And people RIP on Skynyrd like they were the most pathetic bunch of losers to ever start a band.

I have carried on about Allen Collin's brillant solos on Freebird.

I have talked up Skynyrd until I am BLUE IN THE FACE.

Often my Skynryd sources are so bad to where even I can't appreciate the recorded effort. The GOOD NEWS now is that 7.13.77 is on being traded on DVD.

NOW THE VIDEO FOOTAGE IS BEING TRADED OF THIS SHOW,AND IT IS GREAT

Allen absoloutely DESTROYS, OBLITERATES, HAMMERS, INCINERATES, BLISTERS, etc his solo on FREEBIRD on this show. Allen's solos on this song are the most incredible that I have ever seen him play. A solo that is equally incredible is the one at Knebworth from 1976, the one not used for Freebird The Movie.

But how many people are ever ever going to see the NEW/old 6.13.77 VIDEO FOOTAGE? How many people will see just how BRILLIANT Lynyrd Skynryd could be? I'm sharing this show but the first people who will get will be the REAL FANS. I'm fighting an UPHILL BATTLE don'tcha know.

By contrast the BEATLES personell are household names. Everybody knows who everyone is or was in the Beatles. The Beatles were and still are ROYALTY, meanwhile Skynyrd had to BEG the "powers that be" to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Look, I was never berating the BRILLIANCE of the Beatles, but Penny Lane, Lady Madonna, Lovely Rita, Paperback Writer and the like are just FLUFF songs that I don't care anything about.

He likes to keep his fire engine clean, it's a clean machine????????

WHAT????

Come on, mellow out YOUSE GUYS and stop making me feel as if I need to worship the Beatles.

I am only "CRAZY" about a small number of people in Rock and Roll.

I happen to be a big fan of Skynyrd, the original band ONLY, and I live in their hometown. I didn't grow up listening to the band; I was too young.

Ok, sorry Robert but I am not extremely impressed with a lot of Beatles songs.

I also don't like Govt Mule or the Derek Trucks Band.

I like Dickey Betts and his bands though. I'm not crazy about his solo work but DICKEY RULED in the 70's with the ABB.

I further LOVE what Susan Tedeschi does at her live shows. I have over 35 of her recordings. Do YOU appreciate or collect her shows? I don't think it is all brilliant but Susan can give me GOOSEBUMPS when she sings and plays. Susan's music touches me while I can't even relate to what Derek is doing.

It's all about getting WATER under your BOAT.

OR

WHATEVER FLOATS YOUR BOAT.

You REAL Beatles fans need to stop DEIFYING the band.

Yeah, the Beatles were EXCEPTIONAL in TOO many ways,

Please don't SHOVE the Beatles down my throat.

I like the Beatles but I have never LOVED the Beatles.

I am a FAN of the Beatles.

I am NOT a FANATIC about the Beatles.

I am your run of the mill average Joe Beatles fan.

I have tried time and time again to become a bigger fan, but I just can't. If anything I DIG the way they played LIVE early on and I appreciate greatly The White Album and Let It Be, yeah, the Phil Spector produced cd.

If I had a choice to either seeing the Beatles or the Allman Brothers Band, I'm sticking with the Yanks hands down.

The Beatles rocked but personally, they don't do anything for me. The song of theirs I like the most is Let It Be. I think that's the only CD of their I have. I've always thought John Lennnon took himself too seriously.

You need to mellow out dude. If it gives you so much agita to hang out on a site where people worship Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes and where you feel the Beatles are being "shoved down your throat" perhaps you can go hang with your fellow Skynyrd fanatics. But I think when you call some of the great pop/rock songs in history "fluff" and openly ridicule them, then fans are going to defend.

The only Beatles song I can really say I dislike is "Got To Get You Into My Life." Something about the horns really annoys me.

By the way, one thing I noticed this morning about a Beatles song - I heard "Run For Your Life" on the radio and I guess maybe I never really paid attention to the lyrics before, because I realized that he's basically threatening to kill his girlfriend if he catches her with another guy. Nice. I thought only rappers wrote stuff like that...

I agree about Run For Your Life, although the melody and guitar really rock!

I guess the only Beatles song I don't care for (aside from Number 9), is Mr. Moonlight.

Otherwise, I like the simple pop songs....and I like when they got psychedelic too!
