Yeah . . . we saw the signs shortly after midnight last night, applied some emergency procedures I found on some pet sites, but by about 3:00 a.m. we knew it was all over.

This is of course not as weighty as some of the things folks around here have been through lately and are still going through, but this new year didn't start too well for us.

Sorry about your hamster Droogie. He or she looks cute
and loveable. Looking at your hamster made me think it
would be fun to go look at Pinky and the Brain which I picked
up on dvd last fall. I'm grown but I enjoy looking at cartoons
a bit, especially Homer and the Simpsons.

What was your hamsters name and was it male of female?

Well, he was mainly my 12-year-old son's hamster, but the Mrs. and I both liked him quite a bit.

His name was Armando Alejandro Estrrrrrada (WWE fans will get that) and he was a cool little dude. He'll be missed. We only had him since early July.

When I first saw this post I though it was from the same dipwad that posted about his house burning down, & all he wanted was some freebies, using the 'dead pet' ploy.

Apologies Droogie. Sorry about your loss.

Sorry about your loss Droog. I swear I think 2006 was the "year of death" or something. I knew so many people that died last year it's crazy. All we can do is be thankful for the time we did get to spend with them and keep on going. I get lost in my music when times get rough. It helps so much.

Sorry for your loss

Doesn't matter the size of a pet, they still get our heart strings and become

Bummer on the hamster. I actually have a couple of gerbils - and no, not for that. I inherited them when my ex lost her mind and her and her son went on their crazy adventure. I was stuck with the gerbils, but I kept it going. The fact is, I had as much to do with the training of the little guys as anyone. We had two, and they had certain patterns and habits that we encouraghed. After I had them on my own , whenever one would die I would immediately get a new and younger gerbil so that the one that was left would teach the newbie all the patterns and habits. I have kept that string alive for six years now, and about 10 animals later. Still, they retain some of the characteristics that the first batch of gerbils had back when myself and young Jeremy were raising them. Crazy. On a side note, another thing that gerbils are good for is to get the other predator animals to eat crazy things. Because of the proverbial jealousy, I taught two different cats to eat popcorn and pistaschio nuts because they couldn't stand to sit there and watch me feed them to the gerbils who were obviously enjoying their treats, which drove the cats crazy. And, just the other day when I was out in the country I grabbed up some dried corn husks from a harvested field corn stretch because when you put a few of those in the cage the gerbils automatically start to shread them and build a nest with them, which is pretty cool.

DH

That too bad Randy. Losing family pets is always tough, and hamsters are cool little critters. Our boys lost one a year ago, so I understand how you feel.

Condolences to your son and you and your wife. Losing a pet, is a difficult thing for anyone to go through. Explaining it to a twelve year old, must be rough.

I am guilty of thinking about the Seinfeld episode about George and the squirrel ... using those small instruments and defribulators and stuff.

But, hey! A pet's a pet - family member and all. My most sincere condolonces. I'm sure your hamster's in a better place ... gone to that big tread-wheel in the sky!

last school year, my sister's third grade class had one as a class pet and it got loose and she found it dead behind a shelf. She had to explain to her class what had happened. Luckily she found after the kids were gone for the day. SORRY DROOG
