I'm sorry to be so morbid folks, but this bothers me.

They are making a spectacle of James Brown's death. Is this how you'd want to be remembered, with ringmaster Al Sharpton at the head?

I think this is more appropriate. James' last public appearance, giving out toys and bringing smiles to Augusta's underpriveleged children.

Disgraceful!

I was watching Entertainment Tonight the day after he died and became absolutely sick. (Actually, that show makes me ill anyway.) Instead of doing some sort of tribute to JB, they go off on a tangent about his escapades with the law in his past. I just wanted to throw a chair at the TV.

James Brown tried to give back to communities that he drew his support from.
In Macon he started several businesses in areas that most people wouldn't think of doing so.
He put them (mostly convenience stores) in those areas since there was an actual need for them there, and he was adamant that people from those areas work in those stores.
So he tried to fill two things in that endevor. The needed service of a local store that carried products for the locals, and jobs for people in that area.

the stores were called "The Golden Platter"

Am I a pig head when I refuse to listen to, watch or read anything that is brought up about James' off color life , when he did so much good, gave to so many and gave the world his style of class A music. Shame on newsprograms and newspapers that repeatedy bring up anything other than James's good side. So many folks who loved him are still morning his passing.

I'm sorry. I need to go to bed. Lack of sleep from being sick, plus a few beers tonight just because....

James Brown deserves better than this. Damn his escapades from the 80's. He redeemed himself several times over. Al Sharpton will latch onto whatever he can to get his ugly mug in the front page news. NO SHAME!!!!

Rob, this was taken Friday 12/22, and he commented to the news reporter he wasn't feeling well, but he HAD to come down and do the toy giveaway because it was that important to him, to give to the kids in Augusta, the town he made his home. He loved this town. To see his corpse paraded by the likes of Sharpton, while his widow is locked out of the family estate, and likely railroaded out of any inheretance, along with her 5 year old son James, II, is reprehensible.

If you read the stories, they said Sharpton was a friend of Brown's, and even styled his hair to be like Brown's....

And that makes it allright for Sharpton to parade JB's corpse around? Maybe I'd feel better about it if Sharpton wouldn't smile as he stands next to James' casket as viewers file by.

I most certainly agree. I dont understand the locking out of his family. Doesnt SC observe a common law marriage. I wonder who locked them out or had them locked out? Its sad. James would not wanted it that way, Its a damn shame. I sense some greed going down.

I talked to several people right after they got back from Otis Redding's funeral in Macon, they said it was quite a spectacle. Jerry, Goliath, anybody go to that? How does it compare?

Dave, one only has to consider what JB did in Detroit the day of MLK's assassination to know how much a pile of **** e Sharpton is. I suspect JB saved more humans that night then AS will ever do in a lifetime.

Quoting the news last night. Sharpton use to be his road manager and one of his back up singers.......imagine that. That doesnt change my opinion of Sharpton one bit.
But now, for James Brown, he is the man, and never will be anybody like him again.
RIP JB

Our friend, Nancy S-S, that lives in Augusta met Mr. Brown (as he preferred to be called) several times....they were finalizing plans for him to perform at her high school reunion this year.....even though the lawyer is saying that he and his widow were not legally married, Mr Brown called her and introduced her as his wife. Five years ago, Nancy was talking with Mr Brown and she walked up...he introduced her as his wife, patted his wife's tummy and told Nancy that they were having a baby. Nancy said that he was so happy and joyous about the baby.....guess the details of another ceremony was not that important to him. However, he did maintain a home for her down the street from where he lived so she does have a place to go, clothes, etc...in other words, she is not homeless. Nancy will be attending the funeral.

It's sad to see this fiasco! May the sweet sound of his music live on forever.

I'm with Bluedad. I've told my sons and friends to throw a big party. Assuming I have any money left when I'm gone, I'll allot money for the party out of the estate. Y'all better throw a big 'un with all my favorite music! And no tears.

He also flew home to Augusta from Boston in 1970 to help stop rioting brought on by the death of a 15 year old black boy in police custody. Six people ended up dying in those riots, and many businesses burned, but I believe the outcome would have been much worse had Mr. Brown not stepped in and called for an end to the rioting.

And one paper in Augusta is reporting his actual year of birth as 1928, which would make him 78, and not 73. The year of his birth was reportedly altered in an attempt by him to avoid prosecution for some petty crimes he committed as a young man.

As always the devil's advocate here, I saw a picture in the news where it would appear the right Rev. Al and Mr. Brown's association goes way back. Both worked to gain a national holiday for Dr. Martin Luthur King. Sharing a birthday with Dr. King I never had a problem with that. I really don't think one can underestimate James Brown's importance to the black community and it's struggle for equal rights as well as to pop music in general. Even on par with Dr. King. I remember attending elementary school in one of the first integrated classes here in Mooresville and John Phifer saying to me, "Say it out loud. I'm black and I'm proud." Of course John also used to say, "You know what Mavin Gaye say? Let's get it on." I think he was using that one out of context. Lol!

Then on the other hand the subject of "idols with clay feet" always tends to come up when a celebrity passes. Mr. Brown's penchant for PCP and the strange behavior that accompanies the abuse of that horrible drug seems to have been swept under the rug while everybody stumbles over themselves to glorify Soul Brother Number One. If my memory serves me right there was a nasty episode where James was accused of raping Dean Daughtery of ARS fame's wife during a binge. Whatever happened there?

Of course James also stated that funk started with him in Macon, Ga. Who can dispute that? Macon the capital of both Southern Rock and Black Funk. Outta sight, baby.
