It's been a long ABB off-season. In baseball to keep interest there is the "Hot Stove League", winter off-season discussion and speculation about the roster and team prospects. Regarding the ABB, what would you consider to be the "ideal" setlist (between 2 and 2 and half hours, around 15 songs)? Ok to include items that the band has never performed. Here's mine:

Ain't Wastin' Time No More
Don't Keep Me Wonderin'
Little Wing (one of the few major Duane sessions not yet covered by the current band)
High Cost of Low Living
The Sky Is Crying
I've Got Dreams to Remember
Jessica
Into the Mystic
Who's Been Talking
I Walk on Guilded Splinters
The Weight
You Don't Love Me (original arrangement)
Whipping Post

Encore: Layla

Second Encore: Little Martha

Added note: The drum solo gets a rest for the evening.

It's all good to me. But I sure would like to hear more off of Enlightened Rogues. Give me a "Pegasus"!

Most excellent. I would trade out Splinters the extended Revival or Jessica, throw in a Come and Go, maybe exchange Post for a focused MJ w/ a BS or Afro Blue portion.

Happy New Year!

"Revival" is not an easy song to pass up, particularly with the way it's been performed during the past year. "Jessica" made the setlist! "You Don't Love Me" wasn't on my original list but love the way the band did it at last year's Beacon run. MJ/Afro Blue was another one that I considered but as you mention MJ needs to be focussed.

I think the ABB should have a contest where we could all submit these setlists and they could pick the one they feel works best and the winner gets two front row tickets to that show.

i know i'm repeating some, but i'll try---to start,i also prefer a VERY limited drum solo,if at all.Now-------done somebody wrong, loan me a dime,nevertheless,win/lose/or draw,IMOER,the sky is crying, stormy monday, jelly jelly, oncoming traffic, little wing,YDLM(FE style),ain't wastin time, dreams, whipping post----------------one thing i'm sure of---if they play that entire setlist in an "extended" manner, both the band & eveyone in the beacon will need at least a week to recover!!!!!!!!!!!! -----& maybe one last encore,to try a new cover with GA & Warren singing, cortez the killer!!!!!!!!!!!!!(i am too greedy!!) & this is more than 2-3 hours.........

All Good,,
BUT..it ain't an Allman Brothers Concert without the Drum Solo's, I for one love em. This is their chance to shine, I mean geeze..it's the brothers back beat!! where would they be without Butch, and Jaimoe...not the same. Why not let them cut everyone's solos down then?...and the concert down to 2 hrs, maybe only do one week at the Beacon.
Man, I remember at the Fillmore east..Duane hardly EVER left the stage during the drum solo..he would grab a beer, and sit off to the side watching and listening and driving them..just by sitting there. If Duane were here..he 'd tell you al,l Standing at the back of the orch seat by the door with his arms out "ANYONE WHO DONT WANT TO HEAR MY BOYS PLAY DRUMS ARE GOING TO HAVE TO FIGHT YOUR WAY OUT"..and he wouldn't be kidding!..Not for nothing..but shame on you all. These guys read this .don't they? It's kinda insulting I think. I know I'm sort of a minority here, lol,,as I see everybody run past me during the drum solo to get to the lobby, but hey..that's cool, I've worn the mask of the Lone Ranger before, and it fits me well.
Peace

SkyPuppy---don't get me wrong---i'm a huge admirer,to put it mildly,of thedrummers---they are 3 of the best in the music world & each is unique-----but,i'm not a heretic for having a subjective point of view----also,you,i & all of us can't say what DUANE would say about anything, musical or otherwise in 2007---alsi,i've been backstage & all the bandmembers left the stage & gave no attention to the drum solo---i'm not knocking them in any way---would DUANE have walked off to talk to his, wife, friends, fans, etc. as they do many times in the many years i've seen them---who knows..........peace

Great idea.

Derek said in an interview on the Songlines DVD that (paraphrasing here) the reason why the Allman Brothers have been around for so long is because they structure their performances so that everyone gets a rest. That enables them to play longer I suppose. Atleast that is the way I interpreted what he said. I would guess that JaBuMa is a great time for Derek & Warren to shake the feeling back in to their fingers, stretch their necks as they are usually looking down while playing, etc. I'm sure Gregg's a$$ tends to fall asleep from sitting on that wooden bench. It has to be like sitting in church for two or three hours. And even Oteil walks off until his solo. So I think JaBuMa has a practical application too. Notice they are never in the middle or beginning of a show, but always right before the encore. And a nice long drum solo is better than an intermission only to return for two more songs (IMO).

slowhand6---you make an interesting point--if it gives them all that they need to rest then why not drums rather than silence........

I know Dad, I just felt insulted for the guys. They are out there every night giving you their all, and the thought of getting up and walking out on them just goes against me, but I never doubted anyones love, and admiration for the band, and I certainly don't want to tell anyone what they should do when the drum solo starts. I won't deny.. it isn't the highlight of the show, but it is an integral part of their performances since day one.
And of course no one knows what Duane would say, or feel, but I personally believe he would not want half the venue to filter out of their seats during thier solo's.
I'm not a drummer, but I do know they are the unsung hero of any band, and I think it's rude to walk out on them when the spotlight finally hits them...Just one man's opinion.
I'm not trying to insult anyone, and I know none of you get up with that intention..but think about it, if it was you behind that kit?
LOL..I know I'm going to get beat on for this..
Peace

SkyPuppy---no beatings here!! i see your point & can't argue with your point---i would never want to insult a person in general & a musician who makes music that i love in particular----my ears may not love it but if the issue is their feelings & possibly insulting them, then i can see your point, albeit it's not then, really a musical issue!!!
