Linnie - so sorry to hear about your dad! I'm glad to hear that you did have a chance to get to know him, if only briefly but know it must have been hard not having him in your life as a youngster and harder still to have him gone again so suddenly just as you were getting to know him. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Linnie, I'm glad you found out what happened to your father. My own father died suddenly in 1990 or 2000. I can't even remember the year most of the time. I had to basically cut ties with my Dad because he was pretty abusive. I used to cut grass for a guy over in the Arlington section of town. I can't tell you how many times I told "Mr Dotson" about problems I had with my Dad. I would ramble on about this or that and I'd be quite despondent. At worse times my relationship with my Dad brought on anxiety attacks and fits of crying, depression, etc. Nobody but one girl ever saw me to fall apart. It's love for a person that does this to a person. People think I didn't care about my father, that's some folks anyway. I didn't go to my dad's funeral and I've never visitied his grave. I actually try not to think about his bitterness towards my mom and all of his pain. I'm older now and I clearly understand how he felt about my mom, about his situation in life. My dad allowed a financial monkey on his back to ruin his adult life. But my Dad lived large and had a big appetite for life. I'm basically the opposite, withdrawn and much less enthusiastic. Anyway, I know about having a distant relationship with a father. I know about being a black sheep. My mom was my dad's third wife. He married one more time after my mom. I have one half brother who my dad left everything that he have. I have a younger brother of 38. Ok, I'm rambling and this is your thread. I hope you have peace over your father's death. It clearly takes more than one person to keep a relationship healthy. Father and son, and father and daughter have to work to have a relationship. I just hope my own life experience can relate somewhat to your own experience. You didn't know who your father was. I knew who my father was and most of the time he was a bitter SOB. So sometimes the family you don't know about can be a real blessing. Gravitate to the positive people in your life.

Sorry to hear about this and the pain in your heart but it was time to know the truth and somebody thought you were ready and strong enough to handle it, (and put it where you would find it) now so I have faith that you you will mourn but you will be strong and be OK....

I am a firm believer that someone a lot more powerful and important has a plan for each of us. It ain't our business to find out what that plan is, just to follow its path. My prayers, support and sympathy go out to you, with the belief that everything is happening the way it is supposed to, and that given the kind of person you are, that everything will work out OK.
