Boo Boo

Spring 1991 to 12.12.2006

Boo Boo, my fifteen yr old female cat passed away this morning. She had been pretty sick for about a week. She stopped eating food about a week ago and so I took her to the vet on Saturday. Her blood work came back on Monday and the veterinarian said she had the blood work of a two year old cat. She said her blood looked very good but with perhaps a slightly elevated white blood cell count. Boo Boo had also been running a low grade fever. The problem has been for weeks now that the cat wouldn't really eat. And she had become a picker of food and less of an eater. And being that she was fairly fat I didn't figure it was so bad that she might lose a pound or two. Anyway Boo Boo passed away early this morning. She was very weak at about 5:45 when I left for work. I put her in her favorite blanket and on a big pillow on the couch. I was sincerely afraid that she would pass on before I got home, well she did.

I sat with the cat some last night in the chair. She left the family room last night and came to my room. I was awakened my a very mournful and somewhat awful meow around 2 AM. I jumped out of bed and found the cat in the hall. I went back to bed and snuggled with the cat until after 5 AM in the morning. The cat got out of bed at least once and once she even summoned her failing strength even to jump back into bed with me. I was very alarmed at her apperance when I got out of bed this morning. I knew the cat was seriously ill. I had just spend $130 on her on Saturday. I planned to return home about 9:30 AM to take her again to a vet or to a vet hospital. I came home and it was too late. Boo Boo passed on somewhere between 5:45 AM and 8:00 AM. My mom found her dead at around 8:00. I took Boo Boo to the vet for cremation. They volunteered to do a free autopsy and I consented to it.

In my cat's final hours she came to be with me. We slept together for several hours. I had her nuzzled beside me and I stroked her as I bounced between sleep and wakefullness. All the while my cat purred on and showed extreme love until the very end. This morning when I carried her to the family room she was very limp and very weak. I knew she had very little time to live. I snuggled her in one of the yellow blankets that she loved so well. She purred and I stroked her until I finally had to leave. I looked her in the eyes one last time and I could see the life leaving her countenance. It is so sad to lose anyting that you love so much. I know some people will read this and simply have no respect for me. But I rescued this cat from a busy street when she was only a kitten. This was way back in 1991. The cat spent half of her life making babies and staying mostly outside. Boo Boo had a full life and she brought me love and companionship.

Boo Boo was with me for 1/3 of my life. I'm glad she didn't suffer on much longer. The vet was surprised that the cat had passed on. My cat was more ill than we suspected. The doctor thinks it might have been the cat's heart. The cat's abdomen seemed swollen yesteday. The vet said that is always a bad sign when the cat begins to appear puffy.

Well, you all have periodically heard me harp on my cat. I guess I can't harp on anymore about Boo Boo, not in the present tense anyway. I sure did love that cat though and she loved me and showed the same love right until she slipped away.

To put this is context I spoke to a woman at work today about my loss. The woman's name is Brenda. Brenda had a story of her own. She lost her 24 year old son to cancer on Saturday. And Brenda only recently lost he husband. So all in all I know my loss is so much less. Well, I'd add a picture of my cat to this thread but I only know how to borrow pictures that are already online.

Thanks for letting me tell you all about my own world's greatest cat. I'm sure many of you also have a world's greatest pet. I plan to get another cat and I never have thought not to. Accepting that a pet will die is part of having a pet in the first place. I can't tell you how many hours that cat kept me from being alone all by myself.

Rest in Peace Boo Boo.

You were the Best danged cat that there ever was, to me anyway.

JR, sorry to hear about your cat. Losing a pet is tough. Been there...a few times. My condolances.

I have a cat now who is about 17. He's getting pretty gimpy, otherwise, appears to be doing well, but the thought always crosses my mind, "How much time do you have Mr. Casper?"

My friend Mary Jane lost her long-time companion kitty unexpectedly last week. She's a mess. Can't get a straight answer from the vet. Manages a Big Lots, working 60-70 hours a week now. Won't be making the Fox.

Losing a pet is a traumatic event that should never be taken lightly. It's especially tough on those with good hearts. Hope your heart feels better soon, Jammin Rebel.

Thanks for the kind sentiments everybody. This was a very special and very loving cat. My brother was here yesterday and my cat even then found the energy to follow him around the house and to rub up on him. She loved people and mom says she was particularly fond of men. Anyway, thanks for the offer but I haven't bothered yet to hook up my printer which has a scanner. I'm a low tech person. Talk to you all later. I am logging off now. Peace.

Sorry about your loss of BooBoo, Jamin. I know how much I love my Lola - our pets can become our kids and it's a heartbreak when they leave us.

So sorry to hear the loss of your cat Boo Boo! It's very tough! Me and my parents bought a pup this past spring, didn't even make it past 4 mos! It was stricken with a very contageous puppyhood disease! Our pup was a Jack Russel/Lab mongrel! Her name was Boo!

Sorry for your loss. I too, just lost our cat of 18 years. The last year or so I could tell it was about time to put her down. She outlasted 3 dogs during the 18 years. I was just about convinced in putting her down when I found her out on the main road from my neighborhood. It was sad but there again it was a blessing. She was the type cat that would let you pet her and then all of a sudden she would light into you with teeth and claws...........I miss her. We know what your going through. It seems getting another pet definitely eases the pain.

Sorry to hear about your loss Dean. pets are family members who never do you wrong.

In the last two years, I have had three animals pass away. My cat lived 23 years and then passed in her sleep. My wife's cat had to be put down. He was real sick and in pain. i held him while he got the needle. Didn't think it would bother me that much. I was wrong. Very sad indeed.

We had also adopted a dog that was homeless. Sadly he didn't last long after we got him but he did have a happy home for his last few months.

I have sympathy for your loss.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Pets really do bring a lot of meaning and joy into people's lives. I've got a fourteen year old black short haired Persian, named Sabrina who I'm starting to worry about some, as her age is starting to show up.

Sorry to hear about your loss Dean. It sounds like you'll have many good memories though. I know I still think about my furball Stevie and smile whenever I remember how we used to play ping pong ball soccer across the kitchen floor then he'd crrrrrrrrrrashhh into the fridge when he got going to fast. Cats are great animals to have share your time. We're blessed with unconditional love they so freely give us. Peace to you and again sorry to hear Boo Boo passed.

Sorry for your loss Dean Pets are always special. No matter what they are always there waiting for you. I remember when our Katie passed away over a year and a half ago. I said I would never get another dog. It was just to hard on me when we had to put her down. Well my wife insisted on getting another puppy a year ago. I was completely against it! Well I am so happy that we did I love coming home to see Derri it just brings a smile to my face. As my kids are approching that age of leaving soon this will help with the empty nest syndrome. I am glad you will get another

Dean I am thinking and praying for you. I know how tough it is.
