The only problem with Prince's music is that he has YET, in 30 years of recording, to write a song that has NO sexual connotations/metaphors at all.........hence, he might just have to write a Superbowl theme just so he has something to perform that'll get past tipper.....

This is funny to me. I absolutely hate football and the NFL. Prince is a horrible fit for a halftime show. However, I'm sure that he is getting a very nice paycheck and it makes him look like a huge star again, if only for a moment. I think Prince is great, but this is more than slightly akward!

Anyhow, I'm guessing he'll do something like:

Let's Go Crazy
1999 (resurrected)
Purple Rain
Jimi Hendrix cover.

What name will he use ?
Do they write a check and leave pay to the order of _________________ blank ?
What name is on his VISA card ? How about passport ? Drivers license ?
Price Who ??? William, Harry ? Prince Prince ? Prince S ?
Actually I dig a bit o Prince ever so often but he's an easy target.

He's been Prince again for a long time now, if that's what you mean. The symbol thing was to protest his record deal with WB.

Thanks boss, now if I meet him on the street I won't say "Hi" and then not address him.
A few years ago after a concert in KC, Prince showed up at a jazz bar at 18th and Vine Street and blew the roof off of the place. Pretty cool of him to show up and jam with the common folk in Kansas City.

Went to see Maceo Parker, the horn player and longtime James Brown sideman, this summer in Prospect Park, 2 blocks from my house in Brooklyn. These are free shows (you are asked to contribute 3$ at the gate), and filled with kids and picnickers etc., a great local secene.

Prince came out for the encore and burned the place down. Say what you want, the man has talent and star power to burn. I haven't put a Prince album on in years, but I respect him plenty -- he's a great player and writer and a helluva performer.

Glad I can help. Just for the record--I'm a fan. Like you guys said, I don't listen to him much, but he is great.

Just doesn't seem like a good fit at the Superbowl. Stones = good fit. Prince = ???.

To me it would kind of be like the Derek Trucks Band doing halftime (yes, I like DTB!) but they are often mellow and slower and jammy, not hook-y 4/4 rock that everyone knows. I just picture Prince being out of his element. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

Prince has become a member of Jehova's Witness.

he has not be doing the more racy material since that conversion.

Sexy's Back. I read that he told Justin Timberlake that "Sexy never left!"

P.S. - I like Prince and everyone I've talked to who's seen him live says he puts on a hellova show.

"my guess is he wont be doing anything good"

If you ever saw one of his guitar solos you wouldn't be saying that. Prince may be weird and totally out there but he is one of the greatest musicians on this planet....and I don't even listen to him really.

Maybe he'll get booed off the stage like he did when he opened for the Stones (along with J. Giels and George Thorogood) in 1981 at the L.A. Coliseum...both times!

It was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. Fans booing, fliping him off, swearing, throwing stuff. He deserved it too. He sang some song called "I'll Jack You Off" and mooned the audience while wearing heals, stockings and an over coat. After that, the fans were relentless. Bill Graham came out after Prince stalked off the stage and chewed the fans out. No one cared.

Prince is talented and is a good guitar player but he doesn't do anything for me. Personally, I think they should just have a college band play at half time. After all it is football. Then again, it's the NFL...who cares.

Actually to get out of his record deal. He could not legally perform or record as Prince, So he legally changed his name to the symbol thing.

smart dude with some smart lawyers.

Now he has the rights to his name back he is again legally Prince.

peace
John
