Some tasty SBD's from SRV!

That's right folks, it's time for my kind of annual Christmas music giveaway. 12 days of Christmas, 12 freebies from my collection, most likely slanted toward what I've been listening to most recently (with some choice classics thrown in as well, of course).

For the first day of Christmas, we have two single-disc soundboards from the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan, recorded relatively early in his career.

11/24/84, UC Davis. Bootleg title, "Out of the Shadows"
06/19/85, Red Rocks Amphitheater. Bootleg title "Stiletto Rain"

If you'd like to claim these discs, please post here to claim your gift, and PM me your address.

Peace on earth, and Merry Christmas to you.

*P.S., once it's gone, it's gone. This offer (and the following 11 offers) will be for one person. The only rule is that you can only claim one of the twelve freebies. No greedy piggies, please.

On the second day of Christmas, Top Droogie gave to me,

Some recent Frank Marino,
And some tasty SBD's from SRV!

Welcome, welcome. Today's gift is a two-disc show from guitar legend Frank Marino (and Mahogany Rush) recorded on 10/06/2006 at the Sellersville Theatre, in Sellersville PA. While I don't have source info, the sound quality is top-notch for an audience recording in a small venue. I don't have a lot of Marino, but I don't need a lot to know that this show kicks ass. Somebody needs to grab this.

This show is free to whoever wants it, except for Brucebcd (sorry, Bruce) who claimed yesterday's giveaway.

The first person to post here claiming the show and then follow up with a PM or email providing me with your mailing address will get the show.

Peace! And Goodwill!

On the third day of Christmas, Top Droogie gave to me,

The Mule show from Saturday,
Some recent Frank Marino,
And some tasty SBD's from SRV!

Hello again, brothers and sisters. Today's giveaway is for the Gov't Mule show from just two nights ago, at the (ahem) glamorous Riviera Theater in Chicago, IL. 12/9/06. You gotta love the combination of Mule Tapers and bt.etree.org. I had this show torrenting in last night, and gave it a full listen today. Damn fine Mule, I must say, complete with the four-man percussion jam during the temporary power outage. You'll find a great mix of old favorites and new stuff at this show.

Like the previous two shows, I'll send this out as a freebie to the first one to post here claiming the show and then follow up with a PM or email with his or her address.

Be that person, and you'll hear the happy "You've got Mule" message in your mailbox real soon.

Peace.

On the fourth day of Christmas, Top Droogie gave to me . . .

We don't need no amps,
The Mule show from Saturday,
Some recent Frank Marino,
And some tasty SBD's from SRV!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, today's present is the oft-requested, "Top Droog's Favorites, Volume 5 - "Amplifiers? We don't need no stinkin' amplifiers!"

Two discs of acoustic ABB performances put together by yours truly, using SBD and FM-broadcast quality sources wherever available. I did this in celebration of my 4,000th post, and now I'm over 8,000, so that was a while ago, and I still listen to it regularly. It's a great set, if I do say so myself.

Like with days 1-3, the first person to post here and follow up with a PM or email gets the gift.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night (it's quittin' time).

Details follow:

Disc 1
1) Midnight Rider (11/19/90)
2) Come on in My Kitchen (11/19/90)
3) Blue Sky (4/14/96)
4) Every Day (7/4/98)
5) Good Time Feeling (4/14/96)
6) Pony Boy (3/10/98)
7) Come and Go Blues (12/27/81)
8) Rambliní Man (4/14/96)
9) Tombstone Eyes (4/14/96)
10) Steady Rolling Man (9/19/98)
11) Weep and Moan (3/10/98)
12) If I had Possession Over Judgment Day (3/4/98)
13) Low Down Dirty Mean (11/19/90)

Disc 2
1) Melissa (9/19/98)
2) Seven Turns (11/19/90)

On the fifth day of Christmas, Top Droogie gave to me . . .

His very first DTB!
We don't need no amps,
The Mule show from Saturday,
Some recent Frank Marino,
And some tasty SBD's from SRV!

Good afternoon, brothers and sisters mine, and Merry Christmas once again. Today we have something simply golden. My very first exposure to Derek Trucks was his cover of "Preachin' Blues" from Out of the Madness, but my very first exposure to LIVE DTB was this show, New Years Eve 2000.

Check out this setlist:

Disc 1:
1. Naima
2. Mr. PC
3. Afro Blue
4. I Believe
5. Use Me
6. Intros
7. Do What You Want To Do
8. Back At The Chicken Shack
9. New Years Jam
10. Sign Sealed Delivered

Disc 2:
1. Amazing Grace->Rastaman->Nusrat-> Rastaman
2. Travelin' South
3. 555 Lake->
4. Flashlight->
5. Too High
6. Superstition*
7. Big Head Salsa
8. Music Brings**
9. Yield Not**->Lovelight

Disc 3:
1. Crazy
2. Ain't That Lovin' You

Notes: *w/ Duane Trucks on drums
**w/ Susan Tedeschi on vocals

Now, perhaps my discs were mislabeled, or maybe I made a mistake, but I listened to the 2nd disc first, so the very first live DTB I ever heard was Amazing Grace->Rastaman->Nusrat-> Rastaman. Talk about an eye (and ear) opener! (For those new to the DTB, Nusrat was the tune that would later become Maki Madni.)

With that one track, Derek had an instant fan for life.

I'm happy to offer it up today to the first person to post here claiming this true gem of a show and then following up with a PM or email with his/her mailing address.

Peace and love,

Your Droog.

On the sixth day of Christmas, Top Droogie gave to me . . .

Four Brits a-jamming,
His very first DTB!
We don't need no amps,
The Mule show from Saturday,
Some recent Frank Marino,
And some tasty SBD's from SRV!

Okay, taking a day off from the bluesy jazzy rock jam world, today's offering of peace, love and music comes from the other side of the pond, and the dark side of the moon.

My gift to you today will be the two-disc Pink Floyd Show from 11/16/1974. Disc one is Dark Side of the Moon played in its entirety. I emphasize "two disc" here because first set generally circulates by itself as a single-disc, but I was fortunate enough to come across the "full show" about a year ago, which includes a tasty "Echoes" encore.

What I particularly like about this show is the strength of Dave's vocals. The Time and Us and Them are both killer.

If there can be any criticism of this show, it's that the opening track, "Speak to Me" was edited somewhere along the line for an FM Broadcast. In the unedited source (which I have, but as there is a lot of digi-noise on my copy I didn't want to pass it along), there are some spoken lines in the middle - "I've been mad for f*cking years, absolutely years, I've been over the edge for . . ." I guess they cut them out because of the f-bomb. Not having these lines will in no way detract from your enjoyment of the show, I just mention it here so that you'll know there's a more complete version out there somewhere in case you want to seek it out.

Anyway, this is a great show, and is generally my first choice when I want to listen to some Dark Side material. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

As with days 1-5, the first person here to post claiming the show and then follow up with a PM or email containing your mailing address will be today's lucky winner.

Much peace to you and yours,

Top Droog

On the seventh day of Christmas, Top Droogie gave to me . . .

Two modern masters,
Four Brits a-jamming,
His very first DTB!
We don't need no amps,
The Mule show from Saturday,
Some recent Frank Marino,
And some tasty SBD's from SRV!

Good morning, and happy holidays! I've been trying do these at different times of the day so that different "crowds" will have access to them. Hopefully it's working out. Anyway, on to the tunage . . .

This is one of my favorite shows. If you know anything about the magic that is Steve Kimock, then you're most likely aware of his group KVHW. I don't know a whole lot about them, but I do know that the "W" in KVHW was Mr. Ray White, of Zappa fame, adding a second guitar and vocals to the party. Well, one evening, Mr. White could not make the show, and as KVHW was appearing with Jazz is Dead on that particular night (and other nights as well, I assume), the great Jimmy Herring was ready, willing and able to sit in for the entire show.

So what we have here is KVHW from 4/30/1999, with Jimmy Herring subbing for Ray White the whole show. And Steve gives Jimmy plenty of room to stretch, too. This is a great show, expertly recorded. I'm sure you'll dig it.

By now, I guess everybody following this thread knows the routine - post here claiming today's Christmas present, and follow up with a PM or email containing your mailing address.

Peace and goodwill! Now I've got to get ready for the office Holiday party . . . Woo-Woo!
