This circus is officially in town...though he said he wasn't going to arrive until March 1, Manny Ramirez showed up at Sox camp in Fort Myers this morning. He is on his way to take his physical, and a Sox official said he is not going to speak with the media (no shock there).

A week from today I will be in Ft. Meyers for my 1st spring training game ever.

Cool he showed up........ i don't get it...... whatever happens the guy hits .300 40 HR and 120 RBI

Enjoy Spring Training!!

A few more HRs than ARod (they both had 35), but that wouldn't have changed the outcome of the season. Besides, he didn't quit he was hurt.

In any case most of use are used to him by now it will still be interesting to see what the new season holds in the Manny being Manny soap opera.

Once again the Veteran's Committee can't come up with enough votes to select anyone for the HOF.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/hof07/news/story?id=2781628

So? Who do you think deserves in? Here's the list....

The breakdown of voting Tuesday by the Hall of Fame Veterans Committee. The 84 eligible voters included 61 Hall members, 14 broadcasters, eight writers and one holdover from the previous panel. Total ballots cast: 82. Necessary for election: 62 from the players' ballot, 61 from the composite ballot. The next election will be held in 2009.

That's cool...
you think Joe is the leading candidate? I wouldn't mind that, i think Joe is a fine MGR though too thin skined as a MGR from reports, he may not be able to handle the scrutiny here, although he handled it as a player.
JG main goal is to be a GM (by his own admission).
From what I heard at the Thurman Munson Dinner last month that I attended, The Boss want's Donny to be MGR whern the new Stadium opens in '09.
We'll see..I love both Donny and Joe, so either way I'll be happy..but i do prefer Donny..from a personal point of view. I want to see him get HIS ring.
Joe G..will always be special....man, in game 6 '96 WS Yankee Stadium, when he hit the triple to put us up in the game I have never, ever felt the Stadium shake like that. You couldn't stand up straight without tipping ..the stadium was litterally rocking that much.
Hey...you notice how strong the AL central is this year!!!??? The Indians!!..watch out!

Hell, Donny is my favorite ball player of all time. So obviously I would have NO problem with him as a MGR. But this is a guy that basically had to be talked into becoming a hitting coach. Though I guess the fact that is still around after a few years means he isnt going anywhere

And NOTHING would be sweeter then to have Donny finally get a ring
I dont think ther would be a dry eye in the house.

I couldn't agree more... Not a dry eye is an understatement.

LOL.. I read that after I responded to your post

This is all anyone needs to know what kind of man Donny is..

Representative says Manny at 'peace' with BoSox

Forget the trade talk of the past two offseasons, now Manny Ramirez apparently wants to retire with the Red Sox.

"Manny is at peace with his situation in Boston," Gene Mato, one of Ramirez's representatives, told The Boston Herald. "He has indicated to me that he would look forward to the opportunity to retire in a Boston uniform."

Ramirez, who is under contract through 2008, has two additional option years worth $20 million per season on his current contract. Mato wouldn't disclose to the Herald if talks had begun between the slugger and the Red Sox to pick up the option years.

However, Julian Tavarez, Ramirez's closest friend on the team, said that Ramirez is eager to have the option years exercised.

"Would you like Jennifer Lopez to give you a kiss? Of course Manny wants his option picked up," Tavarez told the Herald. "I'm telling you that, he does want to stay here, he does want his option years to be picked up. If they're going to give you 40 million, you're going to think about it? No."

LMAO!

Does he really think that Theo is going to pick up one never mind two option years at $20 mill per? Better chance that Theo will be the next Pope. Manny being Manny, gotta love it!

The comeback of Jon Lester (stricken with cancer at just 22 years old) could be one of the better stories to for the Sox, if not baseball, this season....

Lester has waited long enough
Return to game action is Monday
By Dan Shaughnessy, Globe Staff | March 1, 2007

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Lefthander Jon Lester will make his 2007 spring training debut in a B game against minor leaguers Monday at 10 a.m.

"Obviously, it's a day to look forward to," Lester said yesterday. "But I feel like I've been facing hitters in live batting practice."

Lester hasn't pitched in game conditions since August. His 2006 season was cut short when he was diagnosed with a form of anaplastic large cell lymphoma. He was treated at home over the winter and his cancer is in remission.

The 6-foot-4-inch southpaw is on a five-day program and will pitch one inning in his second outing, also against minor league hitters.

"I want to do more, but I have to listen to what they say," he said. "They are working in the best interests of my career."

"If we can ratchet up the intensity and pick up the endurance we will," said Red Sox manager Terry Francona. "But if we look ahead to 12 years from now and he's had a long career, it won't matter if it took an extra month down here this year to get him back on track."

Lester was getting the job done in the Sox rotation when cancer struck. Since then, Boston has brought Daisuke Matsuzaka into the fold and moved closer Jonathan Papelbon into the rotation to join Josh Beckett, Tim Wakefield, and Curt Schilling.

"I want to be in [the rotation]," said Lester. "But where I am is up to [Francona] and the front office. We've got a great starting rotation and if I have to go somewhere else, I'll go. I'll be here in case something happens."

Lester said his weight is back to 215 pounds, which is where it was when he was stricken last summer.
