This year, instead of picking a tag off the "Family in need tree" at Abi's school, we instead picked a friend from here on the site with a family who could use a little Holiday cheer. While we don't have much extra ourselves, we were able to spare what we had and buy some cool stuff like toys and clothes. I started mailing packages last week and I am off to the post office again today. Once my final box is filled here, I will mail that one too. It is a great feeling to know even though we didn't have a lot to spare we stretched it out as far as we could to help others a little bit. We still donated hats and mittens and food to the school.
If you can, please help others for the Holidays. I have learned a little bit can really go a long way. While thinking about this today, I am guessing that there may be other families here that might need a little help. Maybe there is a way we can do this? Possibly by PM's and use the titles "Give" and "Recieve", then I could match up givers with a recievers address, with or without names?
Please let me know what you all think. I found out about the family we are sending things to from another person here and I happened to have the address already from trades a long time ago.

Hey Pam,

Been there, done that and plan on doing it again.

There is nothing more satisfying

Yep, I've adopted families before for the Christmas holiday. It is fun to do. I can get what I need anytime I want thru out the year. I've gone thru Catholic Charities up here in Boston.

If anyone is looking for a good cause to make a donation to make it to the Morgan Shepherd Charitable Fund. NASCAR fans may be familiar with Morgans' charity.

Every December Morgan packs up a bus and takes a trip through the Virgina mountains. One of the benefactors is the PARC Workshop in Galax VA., a non-profit organization that provide handicaped adults jobs, daily living skills and transportation service. The workshop receives no government grants and exists solely on donations. The charity also gives gift bags to low income & needy families. For some this is the only Christmas these folks will have. They have put new roofs and even built a new home for families in SE Virginia.

A very worthy cause that I donate to.

You can send your donation to

3 families so far we have helped!

Anyone here reading this, please send me a PM if you need a little help from your friends. We all go through our tough times, job changes, family changes, etc...It just weighs on you more when it happens around the Holidays. All we need is an address and you can stay a secret. No one will know who you are but me and I will keep that screen name in confidence.

I get a lot of satisfaction from 'adopting' patients from local nursing homes & our local mental hospital who have no family. Sometimes it's the little things that cost little or no money at all. Like giving manicures to the ladies etc. A little red "Christmas" polish goes a long way to cheering them up. It's a good thing you're doing up there Pam, but the lesson you're teaching your daughter is priceless.

Pay it forward,
God bless,
Carole

Pam, you are a kind soul (I already knew that!). I sponsor a family with co-workers every year and it is the most rewarding and heart-warming part of the holidays.

Thank you, Pam, for spearheading this project.

Thanks, Pam, for the big reminder of what this season (and really anyday) can be about! I support a couple of local organizations that provide Christmas for families. I also like to give to a local youth shelter - seems like Toys for Tots does a remarkable good job getting goodies out to youngsters but many times the in-between years are not remembered as much so I like to get together goody bags for our youth shelter.

I never left, I was just being a slacker for awhile.

Abi and me had some long talks about Christmas the past few nights. It started when she asked me what all these lights have to do with Jesus. I told her nothing really, they have to do with commercialization. Then she told me she knows the deal about Santa but wanted to know if the tooth fairy and the Easter Bunny were the same thing like Santa. I said they were. She said, "You LIED to me." I told her I wasn't a liar, I was just going along with the commercialization. At the end of that conversation she came to the conclusion that Santa is just like a fairy tale. I said good answer!
I knew this was coming when last year she questioned how come Mommy and Santa have the same gift wrap.

Maybe Mommy and Santa both shop at Wal-Mart?

That would have been the easy answer but I ordered the paper from the school fundraiser. Maybe Santa bought some there too! A few years ago I went to printing out tags on the computer because I thought she would recognize the writing. Parental sneakiness at it best!

Good work Pam! This is what the holiday is all about. Helping others is good for you!
About the Christmas lights; they actually do have a true Christmas meaning. The lights are to remind us that Jesus is the light of the world. Best to you and Abi!
