Hey,
Going to Albany on Thursday with my daughter & will be staying over - too much to drive back to NJ after that! Someone mentioned Motel 6. Since some of the area looks a little run down as I remember I'm not sure where to stay.
Anyone else staying over for the show or have any advice?

Right near the Palace in one direction you're fine (towards the bars), I wouldn't walk in the other direction at night though.

Right near the venue are both the Crowne Plaza ($189/night) & Hampton Inn ($139) within walking distance.

If you don't mind a short drive, then there are alot of hotels on Wolf Road, which is only 5-10 min from the venue, and are cheaper.

Looking on Orbitz, all of the hotels they have listed should be fine. A couple of the ones that are ~$46 on Western Ave, I don't know those, but all of the others should be alright.

I'll answer more questions if you have them, I lived up there for the past year, and just moved back to jersey.

Is Wolf Rd really close to the theatre? We don't want to have to drive too far after - we got lost after the wallingford show going back to our motel! What do you mean by walking distance?

the hampton inn is literally next door.
The crowne is about 2 blocks.

Wolf Road is pretty close, I'd take the highways to get there.
Get on 787 N, there's an exit right at the Palace
787 N to Rte 90 West (about a mile)
Take 90 W and get on 87 North (2-3 miles)
Wolf Road is the first exit. Exit #2 (Central Ave, wolf road, colonie center)
If you were to miss the first exit for Wolf Road, you can get off at exit 4, "Albany Airport" and wolf road is right there.

If you don't feel comfortable doing that, you can get on Western Ave going West and take that to Wolf Road. It'll take you alittle bit, but it'll get you there.

Unfortunately the area is alittle confusing, there was a hotel on Orbitz in East Greenbush, that looked easy to get to.

While it's a bit pricey, the Desmond on Wolf Road is a nice hotel. I've been there a few times for conferences over the years. Also has a fine selection of draft beer at the bar off the main lobby. Or at least it used to. Been several years since I've been there. Have a great time and safe travels.

I think the Albany set list is wonderful. Zeppelin, the Beatles, and mule mule mule. The quintessential Mule show. I love the pairing of I'll Be the One and Suffer and I love Brighter Days and Like Flies because of the SG Warren plays. That guitar is so cool. 100 % Black. Small and sleek. And it has a higher pitched, more shrill sound than most of the others. I would love to hear Like Flies take some wings during the jam. And Patchwork Quilt, funny but I was thinking about Jerry tonight, thinking that I haven't heard it in a while. And the encore, So Weak, So Strong, beautiful.

Wrote this in another thread. But it applies here too. Ang

Great time. I made the drive from LI to meet my buddy Rob at the Palace. Palace is a nice place, very old style, but renovated. Although it is large, I was disappoited that the place was only 1/2 full. Setlist was OK, I thought the selections late in the second set were "first set songs"and the band was tight, but they may be getting a little road weary. I thought the Sept Brooklyn show was more energetic. Looks like "Time to Confess" will be a "dub side" song on NYE, as they did a great Reggae version last night. Patchwork into Rocking Horse was the second set highlight, and the first set was anchored by the Livin Loving into Beatles, the No Need to Suffer, which was excellant, as always. SWSS makes the hair on my arms stand on edge, I love that song. I drove 3 1/2 hours to get there, and 3 1/2 hours home after the show, but it was worth every minute. Can't wait for 12/29 and 30!!!

I forgot the most important part, we had a Blue Sky interlude during IBTO. Not a tease, but a 2-3 minute run. Very nice...and I did catch the Other One tease, it was not your imagination.
