Am I the only one who thought John Fogerty sounded awful at the Detroit-Miami halftime show this afternoon? He did a medley of Born on the Bayou, Fortunate Son, Proud Mary, and a few others. It was all off key. I was embarassed for him. And then I guess he was going to fly off to do another (Kansas City?) halftime show tonight. It was a little sad.

I wouldnt say he was aweful, but he didnt sound as good as he did when I saw him this summer.

At least we know he wasnt lip synching like that Carrie Underwood chic at the Dallas game...

God, I am SO SICk of that tune. And I'm a Mellencamp fan-saw him do a double bill with Fogerty in Milwaukee at Summerfest in '06 and it was great.

Are they trying to be like McDonald's-"Over a million times played?"

The CD I like by Mellencamp was Human Wheels.Thats a great collection of songs.

Chevy Trucks is infamous for beating a tune into the ground:Like a Rock.

If I was a director for the commercia lI would film a bunch of guys out having a good time, helping each other move, hauling their boat, and I would circulate some cool truckin tunes for the same commercial like

Truck drivin man ( I''d put a Nickelin the Juke box and play that song about a truck driving man)

Truckin

Six days on the road

Lousiana Lady

etc, think that would keep people from changin the channel cause the same tune drives people crazy.

I thought something was wrong with my AV receiver, so I switched it off & ran the sound thru the TV speakers, still sounded pretty awful. I think part of the problem was the sound mix. You could hardly hear the instruments, like the vocal was pushed up too far. For John's sake I hope that the reason.Certainly wasn't a top flight performance for a large national audience.

Yes, that was Molo-he is in JF's current touring band.

His new live double CD and DVD are both smokin' so it must have been a bad mix. I didn't see it, but ya gotta admit the guy looks pretty damn good for being close to 60.

Yeah - I think a good part of the "problem" with the half time show was the mix....sounded almost like a pure vocal track....and that's not usually gonna sound very good....

My kids were also making fun of his wooden reading off of cue cards for the United Way commercial until their Grandmother told them to be nice...

must have been the mix - JF usually sounds much better, and the Stones had the same problem at halftime of the Super Bowl

As a fan of Mellencamp's Lonesome Jubilee and Big Daddy albums, this little jingle he does for Chevrolet is a reminder that his career has seen better days.

Maybe it's just me but I have found that live music never seems to translate well on TV.

I would not say that about Mellancamp's career,he's been dead in the water several times and seems to still be here. I used to really not like his music in the early days ,thought he was a pretty boy type, but I think he has penned some good tunes in his career

What did Jerry Garcia say about selling out commercially I think it went "Hell we would have soldout years ago but nobody asked us."

I would love to have the checks old John is getting from that deal.

Nobody ever sounds good singing during a half-time show. I was pleasantly surprised with how good he sounded at Lakewood last summer (or was it two summers ago).

I caught Fogerty this summer and thought the show was stellar, ESPECIALLY his voice. My guess is it must've been the sound/mix.
