Just been on to check that tickets are still available - they are! But the Ticketweb site says doors at 6.00pm. Is the curfew even earlier on a Saturday, so it means a real early show start (and 4.30 in the Pillars)?

Just wondering: why are these curfews always so damn early? Is there a second event on the same night? Like a "late-nite" dance party with DJ's?

Every Saturday Night there is a "Rock & Roll" Party from 11pm until 4am

Early show doors @ 6pm probably means that Robben Ford will be on from 7 to 10pm

I'm not bothered about getting down the front by the stage, I find that the sound is better if you stand near the soundboard at the back of the room, but in case my assumption about the 7pm start is wrong I will aim to get into the Mean Fiddler by about 6-30

As for the Pillars of Hercules . . . I will aim to be there by about 5pm . . . looking forward to seeing you guys there

Just spoken to Mean Fiddler on the phone. They confirm Colin's comments that bands must be finished by 10pm on Saturdays as there is a club on starting at 11pm. Also, their comment was that as things stand, tickets will be on sale on the door.

Another reason to hate the MF! What a ridiculous start time.

I can't see me being in the PoH BEFORE the gig - seems like there is a better chance of being there AFTER!

I went to see Robben Ford last night in Nottingham. It was the first time i've ever seen him, and didn't know hardly any of his material, but he was very good. You're gonna have a good night on Saturday evening. He only played for about 1 hour and 45 minutes, but he played some crisp guitar in that time. Matt Schofield who lives nearby (apparently), guested on a couple of tracks, and was also at the top of his game. Some tracks i remember him playing, Lovin' Cup (not the Stones), Keep On Running, Supernatural (the encore, a touch disappointing to be honest) a Maceo Merriweather tune, Help The Poor, Nothing To Nobody.

Oh and his guitar tech was wearing an ABB t-shirt

Thanks for the report . . . like you, I am not overly familiar with his material . . . I only have one of his shows and that is from 2001 so probably not reresentative of what he is doing now. Did get to see him sit in with the ABB at the Beacon earlier this year though, but obviously he was not doing any of his own material there!

With no support band we could be in for an early night, maybe 7 'til 9 . . . ah well, Soho is just around the corner . . . shame the Wife will be with me

Don't have any of his stuff and as with Joe Bonamossa (who I ended up missing!), I'm going on reputation only and that if he guests with ABB he must be ok!

Tried emailing Barry via his website, so hopefully he'll get in touch - haven't heard from him since June.

Trains are all to pot, Colin, bus link to Reading after 9pm, so I'm driving in and tubing from Osterley. Is that why Mrs H is in tow?

Hi Jim . . . no Mrs H is in tow because it is our Wedding Anniversary next week and so this weekend is our way of celebrating it.

We are going by train, but we will be making a weekend of it . . . up to London at 10am Saturday, shopping during the day, Robben Ford in the evening, staying the night in a hotel in Mayfair, Dali exhibition on Sunday, then home again about 6pm Sunday night.

Where is the bus link . . . between London and Reading on the Paddington line?

LOL! For the sake of clarity, the "short" here refers to the hair and not stature!

Anyway . . . hope you enjoy the match at that fabulous new stadium and it's not far on the tube back down to Tottenham Court Road . . . so maybe we'll see you there

Hi Folks,

If I'm not feeling any better than I do at this moment I'll not be joining you tomorrow I'm afraid. Doped up with lemsips and still feeling crap - couldn't drive into London feeling like that.

Colin, Paddington to Reading by coach on the Bristol trains at least for late Saturday. Don't know about rest of weekend.

Let's hope the lemsips, together with a wee toddy tonight do the trick!

Hey Jim . . . sorry to hear you're not well.

With regards to the trains, fortunately the Paddington trains don't affect me as I am on the Reading to Waterloo line . . . Waterloo trains are slower as they stop at all the minor local Stations (1 hours to London instead of hour) but as it takes me hour to get into Reading as opposed to 5 minutes to my local Station then ther is not much in it for me.

Hope you feel better by tomorrow mate

I thinl I've got pretty much every album he's done including his work with the Yellowjackets and Tom Scott's LA Express. His playing is more bluesy these days. I've seen him live loads of times and he allways gives a good performance.

The P.O.H. for a drink? ..nah, tis a gay bar don't you know
