Not to get everybody excited, but I just read this in the Feedback forum at Wolfgang's Vault:

This is my 2nd inquiry as to:
Film of the Allman Brothers at the closing of the Fillmore East.
Do you have it, and will you perhaps try and release?

ANSWER; Sorry I did not answer you earlier. Yes, we do have that film of the Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East.

We have been working very hard on a new release of our website which focuses on an expansion of the audio. This release should be in production within the next couple of weeks. As a result, we have just begun the project to transfer the thousands of video tapes we have into a digital format. We then need to clean-up the video before we present it. This project will take at least 180 days before we can play even the first video. Thank you for listening to Vault Radio.

It's sure sounds great! But I'm still thinking it's going to end up being 9/23/70. I sincerly hope I'm wrong.

I'll believe it when I see it. Sorry, don't like to be a pessimist but I think some of you on here allow your enthusiam for the band distort your view on reality. Has it ever been confirmed that video footage even exists on those two glorious nights at the Fillmore?

Peace

Kind of blue, I share your pessimism...BUT
I bet lots of folks never thought they'd get a dvd of Blind Faith playing their first show in New Hyde park either! And this topic gets about as heated as the 'bring back dickey' threads...but my thoughts:
-bill graham loved the brothers...you KNOW there is SOME video somewhere, just illogical to think his favorite band was never filmed, when there is all this other footage of other bands.
-the amount of stuff in that 'wolfgangs vault' was incredible. I can just see at some point, somebody opening a box with some reels in it and be like "hey guys, is this the allman brothers?"
-all this retro/'old'/nostalgia stuff is so hip right now...surely someone can see some $'s when you look at the sucess of some of these other releases to DVD
-If not fillmore, how bout some Atlanta pop festival?...GEEEAAWWDangit dont it piss you off to know this stuff exists somewhere, but we're not able to enjoy it!

It just adds to Duane's mystique- here you have one of, if not THE greatest guitarist of all time, yet there is NO FILM FOOTAGE of him anywhere..? I aint buyin it. Since money is the great equalizer, surely someone, somewhere will come to the realization that creating/selling some duane footage would be like printing money! Hell, I'll order 2!

At this point, i would settle on a 'cleaned' up version of that fillmore footage from 9/23/70...its better than nothing. Seeing Berry mouth the words to whipping post grabs me by the boo boo!

I suspect that when they bough the archieves they really had no idea of whet they had. I also think there may have been some mislabled or not labled recordings and video.

I still maintain that the audio of 6/26/71 or at least some video does exist.

I think I read here that Butch or someone said they never set up there recording equiment for that 6/26 show.
If Bill Graham was taping stuff all those years why not the band that he himself felt were the Best American band at the time.

I sincerely hope that this video does show up, but I wouldn't get too excited. It just doesn't pay to do so. As someone else said above it seems entirely logical that whatever Duane footage that does exist will show up someday. You just have to be patient.

I tend to be cautious here as they claimed to have Fillmore audio from the 26th that turned up to be from January (correct?). I hope they do. I hope there are hours and hours of glorious Duane footage for the people who were there, more than for myself even. I just think it pays not to get too excited this early in the game.

I think Clay is right...the vault has been wrong so many times already about show dates....
it must be 9/23/70.....but it's fun to dream......

Gary, I sure hope I'm wrong! And you know, of the 270 people that have read this thread, I'd almost bet the farm that someone who really 'knows' the truth, is one of those 270? To me, the possibility of this actually being from 6/27/71, and in video format, is in my opinion the greatest Allman Brothers find, EVER! So, I hope, someone who really knows if in fact it is 6/27/71, to please let us know? I really believe it's that important!

I don't know for certain, but I do think that there has been some extensive research into those vaults in the past and they have turned up nothing not already known about.

But we can always dream, right?

JNB!

The only clips that I've seen that remotely resemble 6/27/71 is from the Big House web site. Never heard the whole story behind those clips, but it looks like Duane is wearing that Peacock shirt...

I'd also like to add another vote to the "It's the 9/23/70 show".
