MelodicRock.com has issued the following report:
"No more teasing. Never tease where Van Halen is concerned... I have information from a highly placed source that Van Halen will likely tour in 2007 with David Lee Roth as frontman.
Negotiations are currently underway to re-unite Van Halen with their original frontman for a tour in 2007 that will take in America and possibly other territories. While nothing in the world of Van Halen is set until the band walk out on stage, I can confirm that negotiations between all parties have been underway for some time, trying to put together a big 2007 reunion tour.
One would presume the tour will feature classic VH era songs only. What I do not yet know is whether this plan includes exiled bass player Michael Anthony. Perhaps Wolfgang will play bass? I'm told these questions will be answered shortly.
Van Halen last toured in 2004 with Sammy Hagar, but the tour ended on a sour note and Hagar has not talked to Eddie Van Halen since.
What I also know is that there will be no new Van Halen release to go with the tour, such as The Best Of Both World's in 2004. There is no plans for a new compilation or a new studio album - just the tour.
More details when available."

I heard on the radio that Ed and Michael Anthony were on the outs and that has to be made right before a tour would happen. Sounds like alcohol has turned Ed into a jerk. ____________________

This is about 10-15 years too late. DLR can not sing most of the material anymore unfortunately.
I much prefer the old material but i would even prefer an unknown who could sing it. Roth is a character for sure but his vocal chops were barely there 30 years ago. More of a talk show host now. |

Is he even a talk show host anymore? I love VH but Roth can't sing anymore. Just listen to his bluegrass album of VH songs. He whispers those.

The posters who said DLR can no longer sing are wrong. Forget the bluegrass album. I think that was more or less just a goof. I saw Dave live summer 2005. His set consisted of almost all classic VH tunes. He sounded pretty damn good. I have a discriminating ear, and I was more than happy with the job he did. They will, however need Michael Anthony's harmonies to make any kind of reunion work. The were always a huge part of the sound. |

Regardless of what time has done to the original 4 (ie Eddie's looking like a Halloween Hobo, DLR being a wanna be Stern), it would be great to see them one last time. I was lucky to have seen them on that last tour together in '84 and even as a one off, I would be all in for this reunion. Hey..at least Michael Anthony still has the mullet! |

BTW - it would make a lot of sense, since VH is nominated (and likely to get in) to the R+R Hall of Fame this year. |

This from Wikepedia:
quote: Anthony's future in Van Halen is uncertain as he recently revealed he only played on 3 tracks on the Van Halen III album and didn't play on any of the new songs for the The Best of Both Worlds compilation. Anthony also revealed he was only allowed to participate in the 2004 reunion tour if he signed a reduced royalties contract. Recent interviews strongly suggest that Van Halen is more or less officially defunct.
Mike will spend the summer of 2006 touring as a member of "The Other Half" along with Sammy Hagar. They will perform songs from both the Hagar and Roth eras of Van Halen. At the June 4th, 2006 show in Phoenix, AZ, for example, Mike sang Roth's vocal parts on Running with the Devil and Hagar sang Mike's backup harmonies. On September 8th 2006, Eddie Van Halen announced that his son Wolfgang is now Van Halen's official bass player shortly afterwards stating he had no more hard feelings towards David Lee Roth and would be happy to 'play a few gigs' with him. There are now rumors of a Van Halen US tour with Roth in 2007. There was not mention as to Mike's status in the band. Fan support, and Roth's opinion may lead to Mike's return to the band though it is uncertain.
Hmmmmm...that's quite a revelation there, Mikey. ____________________

Without Michael Anthony it won't be a true classic Van Halen reunion. I would go if he is involved even though I think they waited too long and I'm really not so sure they can pull it off at this stage. I have seen and heard recordings of songs played on the last tour with Sammy and Eddie's playing sounded like a shell of old VH. I hope he cleans up his act and really gets that old VH sound and tone back. I hope I'm wrong because I am a huge classic VH(DRL) fan. I like some Sammy songs from some of the later albums but they never rocked as hard with Sammy and I never liked the way he sang the Roth era stuff live. I have seen classic VH twice, Sammy VH seven times, and Gary Cherone VH twice and the classic lineup is head and shoulders the best by far. |

Much of Dave's singing was actually him talking which was his style. the parts he has trouble with are the choruses. Some he can do and some he can't. I have seen some of the solo tours. The tunes are great and the bands are good but dave is the weak link. Hell Dave had a hard time singing some stuff originally. Seen them many times. Many of those songs were dropped from the setlists early on.
I would still enjoy seeing it though. Dave is a character for sure. His book was pretty funny also.
I read a great interview with Michael Anthony that a friend sent a link to. Very informative and really shed some light on VH past and present. The two brothers really screwed him over and he still went with it because he loved the music and the fans. Plus he hadn't been making money while the brothers had their layoff. It was a pretty sad read. I will try and find the link but it was a while ago. |
