San Francisco, Santa Margarita and Vancouver up on Mule Tracks

10.14 (San Francisco, CA), 10.15 (Santa Margarita, CA), 10.17 & 10.18
(Vancouver, Canada) are live and available for download. Fans of Mule
Tracks should already know that San Francisco Shows are always
special, and this one is no different. 10.15 from the Pozo gives you
a taste of a Sunday afternoon Mule set, including some favorites such
as "If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day" & "Into The Mystic." Two
two nights at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver were epic to say
the least, and on 10/18 "Like Flies" made its live debut. Check out
these shows, and come back soon, as the entire October run will be
live in the next few days.

I heard that Trouble Every Day (Frank Zappa) was also played in the second set. The guy on Philzone said it for sure.

I would like to hear that. I haven't and am not familiar with Frank Zappa's music.

I also heard the Anahiem show was off the hook. They took some casual fans and turned them into diehards. Well, that's the rumor anyway. LOL.

Yeah, I heard the same about the turn-out, though Chico seemd quite full from the photos on mule.net. Just shows where the work needs to happen that's all. But the shows have been stupendous in terms of the performance from what I've been reading and hearing. And like I mentioned, I think the set lists have been excellent in terms of rotation and song selection. I just think those fans that have been at the shows have been turned into die hard fans, if they weren't already. It doesn't matter how many people come to the party as long as they want to come back again and that they bring more friends the next time. You know, this band has been all about word of mouth and grass roots efforts. If you don't want to sell out to the powers that be, like mule doesn't want to, you have to take the longer way there, that's all.

And I was thinking the d*mn music business s*cks.

Good thing there is the Mule cause if I had to listen to radio,or go to concerts like the Rolling Stones all the time I think I would have to spit out my triple grande cafee latte (hot in the winter, iced in the summer) all over myself a few times.

Last night's set list looks also very good. Not at first glance for me (you guys may know I can't stand BB) but upon further thought about the whole show overall.

Ok, I'll fess up, but I had to look up the lyrics to Low Spark and then I had to do some reading about what the song was about. I looked it up on a few of the song meanings sites. I have to say I always thought it was about some gay guy wearing high heeled shoes. Shows you what you think about things, when you grow up in the 70's in Brooklyn.

But really it's a comment about the music business. So is Dear Mr Fantasy. Too bad Warren and the Mule weren't born 15 - 20 years earlier.

here's a reference: http://www.winwoodfans.com/lyr-ref.htm

I think one person's interpretation rings truer than some others: "It is a song about (the evils of) bowing to money pressures from a musician who, at the time the song was recorded, was so against commercialism that he had left a band (Blind Faith) that could have made him a millionaire. He had done that twice remember. He left the Spencer Davis Group right when it was on the verge of becoming huge. But then, later in the decade, as he says in his biography he ended up with lots of praise but no money and set about to "maximize" his career. I think the message of hope "the spirit is something that no one destroys" transcends the conflict and points the way to Steve Winwood's own future. (By the way, I think the song is close to the greatest song of all times.) - Virginia"

WOW, that is an awesome set list! "When Doves Cry" "Low Spark" "The Other One Jam" and this one must have some kind of interesting twist or shuffle mix shall I say! LOL! "Windshield Wiper Shuffle" I'd be curious to hear that one.

And it's up on etree already. Of course this kind of set list deserves a Mule Tracks download, imho, but for now. . .

Ang
Harvey Mandel is a blues guy from Chicago who has worked with blues legends such as Albet King,Otis Rush,Howlin Wolf just to name a few and he also did some session work with the Stones in the 70s.

I'm listening to the McCarren Pool show right now and it occurs to me that while the tapes of the shows are great they don't begin to duplicate the unforgettable experience of seeing the band live. Instead of just awesome, as it comes across on disc, the power and majesty of live Mule is an overwhelming, at times transcendent experience. I can hardly wait until December 29.

Doug

You know, it's all in the eyes (ears) of the beholder, and all beholders be. After Mother Earth, the rest was just ok for me. I did like finally hearing the full Folsom Prision Blues though.

More to the point of your posts, I like being able to hear some of the shows I can't be at so, if that's all I can get, I'll take it. Other than that, nothing compares to being at a mule show.

Ditto, although I won't be fortunate enough to see any of the NYE spread. The Brooklyn show was more than awesome, agreed.
