Great show in Philly tonight: Derek, Eric, and Doyle Bramhall (and the rest of the band) slayed 'em tonight. Same set list as earlier in the week, except Further on up the Road added, and a second encore. Derek 's playing was subdued and sublime, perfectly respectful when up there with an icon of Clapton's status. Doyle Bramhall killed me with one solo where, if you closed your eyes, it was Albert King up there: fantastic.

Very entertaining show. Very talented group of musicians. Clapton played with much more fire and enthusiasm than when I saw him with Cream last year at MSG. I think he was actually enjoying himself. And the old man can still play.
On another note, before EC & co. came on, Butch Trucks walked by my row and took his seat, about 10 or 15 rows back in the center floor section. Doesn't Butch live in FLA? If so, he made a nice little trek to PA to catch his talented nephew and the Clapton guy.

It was a great show, to be expected from all the reviews we've read and YouTube videos, etc. From my vantage point right behind the sound board, the sound was really good, even if it did seem Derek was mixed a little low at times. On the outro to Layla, it was hard to hear Derek's slide over all the other instruments. Little Queen of Spades, on the other hand, was vintage Derek, building his solo perfectly and burning at the end. Eric was really good throughout the night, I liked his solo on ISTS, vintage Clapton.

A friend here at work who went to the show saw me this morning. The first thing he asked was "Who was that blond-haired kid? He was tremendous." That's our boy...

A few other observations about this show:
1. The sound was pretty damn good for this type of venue.
2. Eric Clapton can still play the guitar and play it very well.
3. Clapton was a very gracious bandleader- plenty of solos were had by all players, except for Steve Jordan.
4. Jordan is a perfect drummer for this band. On Motherless Child and Cocaine, the high energy songs of the night, he provided the driving force.
5. It was nice to hear the setlist mixed up a bit from the recent shows, especially to have Cocaine as the closer, rather Layla.
6. I prefer the Allman's Layla to Clapton's anyday (yeah BTW they did a great Anyday).
7. Nobody plays with the soul and voice of Derek Trucks. Like folks at other shows have posted, I had a "who was that young guitar player and where did you find out about him" response to the DTB shirt I was wearing.
