My Dad took me to see Dwight Yoakam the other night. Damn guy played just under three hours. Personally not a huge fan over the years but I have seen him live before. it was always a good show with the ladies going crazy like Beatlemania all over again.

But this show smoked. Really suprised me. Loads of great guitar work all night.

No he wasn't with him this time. I have seen him in the past and agree he is a great player.

This time was a guy named Eddie Perez, on guitar and mandolin. Brought a rocking style to the music.

I can dig that James... I wanted to catch him here a few months ago but it didn't work out.

My parents saw him last night. My dad's been to an unbelievable amount of shows (The Stones w/ Brian Jones 2x and once w/ Mick Taylor, Zeppelin 3x, The Who with Moon 5x, James Brown 6x, Woodstock 69, Elvis, ABB 3x, on and on and on). He said that the Dwight show last night ranks in his Top 5 of all time. That's some pretty high praise.

Picked up his acoustic album on BMG a few months ago. He is definitely the last of the real deal country singers. You can feel his pain, if you know what I mean.
Also, loved his role as Doyle in the Billy Bob Thorton movie, Slingblade. If you haven't seen it, do yourself the favor.

Let's not forget the Colonel (Bruce Hampton) and Vic Chesnut are in Sling Blade also.

And the great sound track by Daniel Lanios

I've been a fan of Dwight since Guitars, Cadillacs and the show at the Forum in London in July 05 was certainly up there as one of my all time greats. Was only DY, guitar, bass and drums and they were tight as hell. Keith Gattis was the guitarist that night and he rocked. Hammersmith this year was pretty hot too. As well as a great performer, Dwight is an excellent songwriter.
