I was listening to an unreal instrumental jam on an Ipod the other day that I believe was part of a Box Set (possibly a Clapton one) and also believe the song was played by Clapton, Duane, Dickey, Butch Trucks and others. I also think there were many other collaberations (all insturmentals) but EC seemed to be the consistent one involved as I remember it. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about or name of the CD? Have spent some time on Google and EC's discography but can't seem to come up with what i'm looking for.
Thanks for your help and hope I have my facts straight

You most likely are listening to the jams that were part of the Layla 20th anniversary box set.

It's definitely that release, there is an entire cd that is instrumental jams including the one that you mentioned with most of the ABB.

I have a two CD set that someone sent me with a date I don't have with me here at work....it might be 8.26.70 (???)

it sounds to me like someone's attmpt to take something from the box set, lay in some crowd noise between tracks and pass it off as a tradeable "show"
I don't have the box set, but anyone know of a potenbtially bogus set out there being traded, or is this something else?

In regards to the Box Set. I believe the 1st and 2nd is just Eric Carle Jim and Bobby. Then the third jam occured after Clapton went to an Allman Brothers show and they spent all night jamming together after the show (if I recall correctly from the book in the box set). The 4th is Derek and the Dominos as on tracks 4-14 of Layla and Ohter Assorted Love Songs. The third cd of the box set is great too. I'd definitely suggest the entire set to anyone.

You are quite right in your suspicions Jim . . . those discs being traded mix some of the Jam sessions from the box set (which being commercially available and therefore NOT tradeable) with some live stuff that doesn't even have Duane on it.

The only tradeable recording out there with Duane & EC is the 12/01/70 Derek & Dominoes show from the Curtis Hixon Hall in Florida. There are 2 recorded versions of this show out there - the 2nd Generation remix of the Mid Valley Records bootleg entitled "Soul Mates, Twin Flames" and the original source that had been traded around for a long time. A new remix of this original source has recently been circulated here in the Trades section thanks to Peter K in Sweden.

Both of these latest remixes are pretty good compared to what was out there before, still not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination but getting towards an A- perhaps. The 2nd Generation source has a bright top end and has Duane to the fore, but suffers from excessive crowd noise and recording volume and quality fluctuations. The original source has less top end, but is perhaps a fuller bodied sound and has less audience chatter. It also features EC higher in the mix than Duane.

Judging by the photo I have seen of the show, it would seem that the original source taper was to the left of the stage near EC and the 2nd genration taper was to the right of the stage nearer Duane. Both versions are very listenable to now, but I know somebody is currently doing more work on the 2nd generation version to get rid of a few more imperfections so a better version of that should be out soon.

Yes Vinny, the 2 discs from Criterion Studios in Miami are exactly what we are talking about above. The genuine jam sessions on those discs are those that are commercially available mixed up with some other bogus stuff.

Someone withsome technical skill, maybe a pro tools junkie, tell me this. With the difference in locations of the two tapers, would it be possible to sync the two discs, digitally edit the imperfections and come out with a more balanced show, possibly even with almost fake stereo due to EC being louder on one disc and DA on the other?

Another question related to these shows-Has Derek asked EC if he has any tape of these shows?

Did not notice this thread, so sorry for delayed answer.
Only I can say is, I'm trying to do this now. But both tape speeds are differ from each other and syncronization will take me much more time.
