i love Derek's playing & Susan's singing from the Bonnrro show--Derek is getting more & more refined in his sound....& versatile jumping from genre to genre of a range of music with ease--he's still spongelike having absorbed EC & Santana into his playing style...his feel is,as always,brilliant...just more so than ever...the master of guitar....Susan is great--her singing adds so much & their musical relationship is fun to listen to....

& the setlist is really evolving & nicely changing...

appreciate your posting this show...

No problem Effie. I started this thread 2 years ago to give people here a place to come and enjoy the music of dTb. Strangely if you notice you can see the bands evolution and it has been a great journey hasn't it.

Derek & Susan certainly have evolved & as a couple they do create superb music...Derek's playing is huge--i love horns since he is such a powerful player--he benefits from a big sound behind him--no secret then why he shines the current ABB like a fine diamond.....the ABB rhythm section & Warren are perfect for his range, depth & pure emotional power & EC 's band was a nice fit too...Santana too!! The bonnaroo show allows him to pull out all the best of himself given the added drummer, horn players & the addition of Susan's guitar...that bigger sound fits Derek nicely

& his lead on Hey Jude is so perfectly locked in with Susan's awesome singing & the horns--wow

Is it me or does he seem to putting more of his body into his solo's rather than stand there?

it's you

he is simply absorbing more, gaining more experience & broadening the way he builds & structures his leads...his rhythm playing sounds light years ahead in all of his EC & post EC work....his reach is expanding & he's incorporated the feel into his essence--maybe that's what you see as bodily--even if he moves...or doesn't...his inner soul is revealed in his playing...& his movement style wise even within one song..or one lead is amazing...i really believe he is a curious observer of musical detail & with his natural talent & ability & his VERY HARD WORK he takes it to a level only, imho, JIMI & DUANE & when in the mood,EC take it--not to offend anyone but my ears hear this stuff & your ears may hear different--no problem--a matter of taste

I've been listening to this show all day, and I love it!

The new material is really coming along. The run of I Know, Down Don't Bother Me and Done Got Over is arguably the highlight of the show, and Get What You Deserve is good too.

Derek's solos on I Know and Up Above My Head from this show are some of the most beautiful, lyrical solos I've ever heard him play. Really good stuff! These versions of Anyday and Stand Back aren't fooling around either.
