...more turnover in a CR related project:

This just in...

We want to inform our fans that Ed Harsch will no longer be performing with The Black Crowes due to personal issues. We are excited to announce Rob Clores as keyboardist and look forward to the fall leg.

I don't know the reasons for his departure, but Eddie has been a mainstay in TBC. What a drag. Does it seem ironic that CR's marriage falls apart and then the band starts to fall apart? (Not insinuating Eddie was involved with Kate, but trouble seems to follow trouble.)

That totally sucks. Just when they got the Southern Harmony era line up going again.

I really really liked Eddie's playing. That's a big blow. One gripe I always had with the Robinson's was how they were always switching people in and out as if anyone could fill those slots and the band would remain consistent.

Yeah, I'd really like to know the details behind this one... I was so pleased with the current lineup and I've always loved Ed's playing. And he's a great guy.

The story is an "illness," but I find that very hard to believe, especially when they only issue a two line reason for the departure...

Eddie had issues earlier in the year. He was told to leave and missed a show. People seemed to think it was a drug issue and that he failed a test. He was then brought back in March and has been with them the rest of this year. I have a feeling that's what this is about not Chris. Ed is next to Chuck Leavell, the best keys player around IMO.

this is a link to the show he missed.

The more I think about this, the sadder I get...

Here's a pic of me (I'm on the left) getting Ed's signage before the Tower show in Philly on 09/30/05:

Major bummer. I loved Ed's playing and always felt he should be given a ton more room with his talent.

I met Eddie when he played with Albert Collins. Before that he was with James Cotton Blues Band I think. So he's the "real deal".
I hope he recovers from whatever illness he has. He's a great player.

Illness? Could it be he's sick of Chris Robinson?

Hello Tinsley,

Wow, i had no idea he played with Albert Collins! Do you know which era / tours ?
Sure is a bummer that he's not with TBC anymore. In case it's a health issue i hope for a speedy recovery. Great player and a real cool dude. Always was a tremendous asset to TBC.

Cheers

Roger

I'm a big Crowes fan. Sorry to hear that Ed has been dismissed. Any word on whether there'll be a new BC album out? The last one (Lions) had some great songs on it but no where near the grandure of those first 2-3 albums (or even "By Your Side" which I loved too).

Very sad news for sure...and I don't think it has anything to do with CHris or Rich and not getting along. Eddie has been a staple with the band for almost 15 years and I think he got along okay with all the members. This is said to be a "personal issue" which leads me to believe it could be substance abuse related. He is a hell of a player and his style fit the Crowes beautifully. I hope everything works itself out and he gets another chance in band down the road. IT all worked out for Marc Ford who was given a 2nd chance and it worked out well. The Crowes have been sounding better than ever.

Are you telling me the Black Crowes drug test their musicians???????????
Was he on probation or something??? What "test" could he have failed??? That just doesn't jive.

Peace

I dig the Black Crowes, but I've never been lucky enough to attend one of their shows. Would someone be kind enough to take the time to give me a little history of incarnations of the band ? Wasn't Andy Hess with them for some time ? Thanks in advance.
