My sister in law and brother have asked me to post this in hopes that we can find someone to help.

To Whom it May Concern:

My name is Andrea Snyder and my father, Leon Nason, has been Eric Claptonís number one fan for as long as I can remember. Many days and nights I would open the door to our house and hear the sweet guitar notes of Eric Clapton resounding throughout the house and my Dad dancing and singing to one of his favorite Eric Clapton tapes.
Ericís music has been with us throughout the past year as my Dad has struggled through a long battle with cancer. There are few cancer patients who have accumulated a medical file as thick as my Dadís in such a short period of time, or been through the amount of pain that he has.
In the beginning of 2005, I was engaged to be married and everyone was excited about the wedding and all of the preparations involved, including my Dad. During this time, he had inclinations that something was wrong with his health, but decided to keep it a secret as to not interrupt this happy time in my life. Just as my Dad has always done, he sacrificed his needs with the intentions of making me happy.
Shortly after the wedding, he made an appointment with a local doctor and was diagnosed with Type 3 head and neck cancer. They immediately removed the cancer found in his tonsil and began an aggressive attack on the cancer by pairing the highest possible dosage of chemotherapy with 40 treatments of radiation. My Dad was hospitalized for a total of 1 month in which he lost his saliva glands and the ability to eat. He was given a peg tube routed to his stomach that has been his sole source of survival and nutrition since September of 2005. In addition to these treatments, he has had a total of 4 surgeries on his neck and mouth including two complete neck dissections.
After this fight to cure my Dad, we received news that the cancer has spread to his lungs and can not be cured. We received this news August 16th. My fatherís response to the doctor telling him that his case was terminal was ďwell, I have two tickets to see Eric Clapton on October 18th and I donít want to miss it or be sick for it.Ē He also joked that he was just beginning to grow his hair back from the chemotherapy in hopes that he could maybe have a ponytail or a mullet to wear to the concert!
So as you can see, Eric Claptonís music is one of the few things left in my fatherís life that brings him joy. And this concert, which is will be his only live encounter with Eric, is the most important event in his life at the moment. So important that he is putting off chemotherapy for 9 weeks so he will be in the best possible health for the concert.
I am asking that if you have the power, please arrange for Leon Nason to meet Eric Clapton backstage or just make him a little more comfortable by giving him a handicapped seat. Please do so for a man whose many joys in life have been made impossible because of physical restrictions. You may contact me at the number below.

Call the venue regarding the handicapped section. I'm sure they will accomodate you.

Your dad sounds like a great guy. Sorry to hear of his ill health.

I agree with Terri about contacting the venue about seating. They may require some medical certificate but I am sure they would accomodate your Dad.

As for contacting Clapton, this site probably won't be any assistance. The best way would be to contact his management directly and speak with them. You can also drop a line through his website I am sure but person to person is always the best route to go.

Some organizations may be able to help out also. i.e. The Make A Wish Foundation or The Cancer Society.

I am suprised that your Dad is such a big fan and has never had the chance to catch him live. I know he will enjoy the show.

Best wishes and prayers for him as he goes through his illness. Sounds like a great guy.

I hope it all works out for your Dad to meet Eric. You are in my families prayers and thoughts. Their are a lot of connections on this site and a large group of some grateful fans. I forwarded to a friend. I hope he can help. Meanwhile they are alot more connections through this forum that can help. It would be nice if somebody could make this happen. If you could send to his management, or maybe a local newspaper in a town that is on his tour schedule. Maybe a radio station. It can be done.

Andrea, go through Derek's people. There may be some help available from BJCC. Clapton showed up and sat in with Jimmy Vaughn in Columbus, OH last week. From what I've seen, here in useless Gadsden, I can tell you nothing is impossible. Eric may even drop by the house.

Prayers for you and your family.

I'm sorry that I havent posted this earlier, but I wanted to let ya'll know what all went down. We were able to get front row seats for this show and back stage passes. He was not able to meet Eric Clapton; however, we did meet Derek Trucks and Oteil Burbridge. Derek and Oteil were both soo nice that it made me cry, I loved them both before, but now I think they are two of the best people alive and most talented! We took pictures with Erics guitar and got to talk with close friends of his, so it really was something that I will charish for the rest of my life. We were contacted by Erics people, and they gave us the tickets and backstage passes, we are not sure who made this happen but if it was someone on here, which we think it was, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This is a moment that will never fade and I thank you so much for helping us out! I don't even know anyone on here, but i will be at wanee and want to meet ya'll, thanks so much!! I love ya'll!!

Hi Bama
I had this exact type of cancer, diagnosed in Nov '99. settled in my tonsils, affected all the lymp nodes in neck, I went through the chemo, and radiation..38 doses, had the surgery, still don't have all my saliva..cant grow a beard anymore, but I caught it early and have not had a reoccurance..yet. You always live with that thought..that it will come back worse. But you can't let that thought consume you.
The best piece of advise I could give your dad he seems to already know..Keep the spirits high, and go through what ever your going through with Dignity.
Your father must be quite a guy..to face this with such class, and to raise a daughter like you...bless you, and good luck.

Peace
Vinny

You never know what can be accomplished until you try.

Nothing is impossible, especially around this place.

Best wishes to your Dad, looking forward to meeting you at some point.
