Steely Dan is one of my favorite bands and I've never had the chance to see them live. The only thing is, I saw them doing some live stuff on VH1 not long ago and Fagan's vocals were not very good. Was this a one time thing, or can he not really duplicate his "studio" voice ?

There was a long thread posted here recently with reviews of the current tour..........go to "search" and enter Steely Dan. I saw them 7/25 here in the Bay area, and they were GREAT.........one hour and fifty minutes of nothing but hits. I don't know what other band could play nothing but hits for that long, with the exception of The Rolling Stones. Fagan's voice sounded GREAT, although I will admit he started out low in the mix. Seems he needs 20 minutes or so to warm up the vocal chords. We got lucky and Bonnie Raitt came out and sang "Dirty Work" from their first record. The 12 piece band is SUPERB.........four piece horn section, three backing female vocalists. You're in for a great time.

i used to love steely dan years ago...thought the first 3 or 4 albums were brilliant...they lost me after that and the last couple of albums to me are like elevator music or what you hear on those "cool" jazz channels...i believe katy lied was their last album i really liked....aja started them down the road to easy listening, shame

i can see your point in some respects, but Aja is a fantastic album, it's what my dad jammed on when i was roughly 8 years old and it turned me on to them. as far as the elevator music-smooth jazz thing goes, it's hard to deny that some of their tunes do fit in to this category. i still think they never got enough credit. GREEN EARRINGS FOREVER

Saw them last Tues. in Va.Beach. If you have the chance, GO!! Amazing show. Band is phenomenally tight and Fagen's voice sounded just fine. Michael McD on the other hand, was really struggling vocally, with his older material.
