As some of you may or may not know I was diagnosed with "renal" kidney failure Jan 15 2006. I posted once or twice about it & you all were very kind in your responces & support. Dispite being on dialysis I still made a two night Beacon run & the Wanee 3-1/2 Weeks ago I had a kidney transplant at Peidmont hospital in Atlanta. There were some minor hick-ups , but none the less the kidney is in great shape. I was given the kidney from my younger brother "Seth." I am now recovering at home & feeling better each day. The short term goal is to be able to make it the distance at the Atlanta show next Sunday.it's going to be a long night of music & may be some heat too, but I hope to be ready. I know I come across bitter & negative sometimes, but I thing that attitude has been changed for the better - forever. I have been given a normal life back & I hope to see you all great people there next Sunday.

JBlizza my mother who is 70 received a kidney transplant last November right before Thanksgiving. Mom was on dialysis for about three years. She feels a lot better now. She has had a lot of trouble in the last 4 months with swelling in her legs, but had gotten an infection. I will tell you from experience that you better be very careful about infections. Your immune system is very low now and you must take this seriously. Mom was doing really well with the new kidney before the infection. Mom had cellutis and her legs turned red and they were swollen. She had a low infection for a while and I don't think she or anyone took it very seriously, but in the Spring she was hospitalized for at least ten days. She almost went into intensive care. She then went to a rehab facility for a month. Just be very careful to avoid the things that your immune system cannot tolerate.

And enjoy that new Kidney. Mom is getting ready to leave for church right now. Mom still drives, shops and does much of the things she wants, all thanks to her new kidney. And don't push yourself too hard.

Enjoy those abb shows.

Josh! This is wonderful news! I am so happy to hear Seth was a match! I guess I will keep both of my kidneys for now until someone else like you comes along and needs one. I just can't give this thing away! LOL!
Seriously, I am overjoyed when I have offered to be a donor in the past and everyone has seemed to have found a family match, and years later they are still doing great.

Hugs and love and good health to you and to Seth and I am sure you will get out to that show next week!

I am only 29 & fully aware of the infection risk. I am so lucky to have one of the top transplant teams in the US in my court & with blood work being drawn bi-weekly early dection is key. Thanks for the heads up though. I hope your mother recovers quickly.
