Ok, it's an hour before showtime and as you cruise by the side of the stage you look up and see Warren, head in his hands. He looks up and you notice some real frustration in his expression. "Hey Warren, what's up?". "Done hundreds of these but just can't seem to come up with the right setlist for tonight", he replies. "Do you have any suggestions?"

How could you help the man? Come up with your "dream" two hour setlist (probably between 13 to 15 songs) including encores. Ok to include one or two "special" requests. Keep in mind how the songs will kind of flow into each other. I get to bat first!

Ain't Wastin' Time No More
Don't Keep Me Wonderin'
Little Wing (one of the few major Duane sessions not yet covered by the current band)
High Cost of Low Living
The Sky Is Crying
I've Got Dreams to Remember
Egypt
Into the Mystic
Who's Been Talking
I Walk on Guilded Splinters
The Weight
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
Whipping Post

Encore: Layla

Second Encore: Little Martha

Added note: The drum solo gets a rest for the evening.

I give it to Warren and he looks it over thoughtfully, furrowing his brow every now and then. "Ok, I'll check with Gregg" and backstage he heads. The anticipation is just killing me.

No dis-respect, but it is a "cover heavy" & non- Gregg show. Only 4 older songs.
So first of all you need a song that is more instrumental then vocal for an opener; this is their sound check, so you go with ....lets say
1. Les Brers in A Minor >

Then you need a quick old school hitter to wake everyone up, hell go with a one two punch
2. Trouble No More
3. Stand Back

Ok next you need a jam , you need to hear from Warren & you need to fire up the lighting rig.
4. Rockin' Horse

Ok now we need a crowd sing along just in case someones date is complaining because she dosen't know any of the song thay have played.
5. Midnight Rider solves that issue.

Now is a cross road in the set you can go hard & fast or soft & slow. I would call a
6. Every Hungary Woman

Next you need another quick hitter , how about a new one
7. Firing Line

Is Warrens time for a cover now
8. Smokestack Lightnin'

Are they taking a set break if so you close the set with
9. One Way Out
(SET II)

Ok is a common opener in the front , but I go with
10. Ain't Waistin' Time

Now it's time for an obscure song in todays set
11. End of The Line

We need another jam out w/ Special guest TBA , I say you go with
12. Dreams

Ok , catch your breath & let's hear another quick hitter old school
13. Don't Keep me Wondering

Well I don't care for the drums but you all know it's comming so go check out the T-shirts, grab your last beer before the venue cut the beer sales off, hit the head, swing by the Hittin The note tent & say hey to Greg, BS with those cats for a while as we start with

14. Black Hearted Woman > Drums > Bass > Black Hearted Woman.

Ok right now is a key moment, the drums have losts some folks so we need to real em' back .
15. Back Where it All Begins

Ok let's see Wrren & Derek really dual it out in
16. Woman Across the River

Now we need a set closer
17. Southbound

All right the big Encore , I sy it's a game time audible (Whippin' Post, Jessica, or Mt.Jam)

** I am a bad speller.

I would prefer the dual power vocal as on the D&D version. If I had to make a choice I'd like Warren to do it. This is such an amazing song with a lot of opportunity for some guitar insanity. So surprised that the band has never covered it. I've heard versions both by Warren and Derek.

When I was doing it I noticed it was a bit Warren-heavy and "classic" light. I thoroughly enjoy almost everything this band plays. My bias is toward some of their more interesting newer material (High Cost and Egypt), more recent covers (Into the Mystic, Dreams to Remember, Guilded Splinter, The Weight, Sky Is Crying), and best of D&D. Little Martha is such a rarity, it would be cool to hear it more. The "classic" choices were just my preferences. Some classics have been played so much that they just don't have the same impact for me (Midnight Rider, Statesboro, One Way Out) that they once did. BTW, I wasn't intending to make this a critique of my own preferences. Wanted to start a topic where anyone could indulge their "dream" setlist.

I'm with you on leaving drums out, but Rockin' Horse...what's wrong with that song? Heard it too much?

BTW, who wants the 25 minute drum solo anyhow? Butch?

I'd say the rest of the band, but its not even like they play much after before taking the encore, so they don't need much of a break...
I say that as if i hate the drum solos...I don't hate them, but they're hot and cold for me and often too long.

Oh yeah, and I'll have my dream setlist up sometime today, a little busy right now

If this is an "Evening With" show, preferably my show at the Beacon, here it is (keeping by the rules of Warren gets the 4th song and 7thth or 8th, and the first 2 or 3 of the second set are with the guest):

First Set

You Don't Love Me > Soul Serenade > You Don't Love Me
Revival
Trouble No More
Into The Mystic
Statesboro Blues
Jessica
The Weight

Second Set

Turn On Your Lovelight 1 >
Franklin's Tower 1 >
Blue Sky 1
The Same Thing
The Sky Is Crying
Liz Reed > Bass >
Southbound 1

Encore

Layla

1 w/ Robert Randolph

That was pretty tough and I'm sure I left off plenty
