The jam band thread got me thinking about this, with whoever I was discussing RR and our likes dislikes.

Just wondering what the general feel is with Robert Randolph. YEAH.... OR NEIGH.

For me, he's a talented guy, but the jams are all the same in my eyes. I've seen him 5 times, and the first time was really great. The next 4 times, not so much.

My vote: THANKS, BUT NO THANKS.

I saw him once... open for clapton... he was good... too much tension in his music for me... and it seemed like he was perpetually crescendo'ing... if you know what I mean (sometime warren will do this in his solo's as well)...

as far as a jam band... maybe I suppose...

"perpetually crescendo'ing"

Yeah, that gets me too, but songs like ted's jam show he is not always doing it.

Saw him open for GA&F, loved it. He's responsible for the music scene that has developed here. Some "grown-ups" saw him, realized what they were missing. Been a great ride since.

Robert Randolph plays with more energy and enthusiam for his music than almost anyone. Just watching him is fun. Plus, I have seen very few bands that do a good job of covering Hendrix- RR is one of them.

Yes.

His act, while always full of energy, was getting a little stale, and his earlier songs were unfocused at times IMO.

He revamped the live show for Mtn Jam and opening for the Crowes - both of which were wildly entertaining.

In a recent interview (sorry can't find the source), he mentioned that he took an introspective look at his songwriting for his new release after playing and touring with other jam bands... any opinions on that new release?

I'm tellin' ya...If you like Randolph, David Lindley & El Rayo X (Either CD #1 or 2) Blows Robert away....For those of you unfamiliar with Mr. Dave, He played Slide Guitar on most of Jaxn Browne's first albums before Starting El-Rayo X..The 1st CD has "Mercury Blues" on it..( I'm gonna buy me a Mercury and Cruise it up and Down the road)..The Second one has "Brother John"....Awesome Slide Playing from a very Talented Guitarist!

Yes. First time I saw him live (except for the time I saw him on some awards show on TV) was opening for EC at MSG. After seeing him on TV I told my son we needed to get to The Garden on time to catch this opener. We were both blown away. By the end of his set, The Garden was full and it was a standing O. RRFB was the primary reason I got a ticket to see The Crowes this summer, thankfully The Crowes also countered with a kick-ass set.

When I saw him as an opener, he stole the show from Clapton in my eyes. The band is has such a great energy associated with them. I can't get enough of 'em.
