I noticed a mac owner posted a few weeks ago asking for help and got no replies.
Maybe someone pmed them, but . . .
I come to you hat in hand, begging for a dumbed-down solution to a potential problem.
I'd like to sign up for a vine that features "4 DVD lossless" and "FLAC or SHN".
I can see you smirking now, but I don't know what this is or how to convert this into a format I can duplicate and hear on my mac (imac G5, OS 10.3.9 if you're still reading ).
I've read the web pages, tried to do some research but haven't hit on a "this is what you do : step 1) . . . , step 2) . . . , etc." explanation.
I've spent many, mostly fruitless, hours trying to reconcile compatibilty issues with PC based formats (which is what I assume I'll be doing with this data).
Anybody ?

Steve,

I've read that post too and would liked to post how to do but, to be honest I've never appied these lossless formats, SHN & FLAC.
I'm a one of the owner of Mac machine, G4 and OS 10.3.9, and feel always this machine is very easy to make authoring DVD and many sound works for remastering.
I'd like to know too what is the best solution to aplly these formats on Mac!

By the way, do you use Flip4Mac? If not, you shoud install this componet.
You can download freely from following link and it helps you to see recent windows codec video on QuickTime.

hey buds, this is all ya need ------ it's what I use anyway, and it works just fine:

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21952

It's called xACT and it simply converts .shn or .flac files to AIFF or WAV format. I don't know the technicalities, but this will enable you to insert a DVD or CD (maybe one for which you traded or BnP'd) then drag the compressed files (.shn and .flac) into xACT and you will end up with files that are appropriate for cd-burning or dragging into iTunes, etc.

hope that helps a bit - please feel free to PM for assistance as well. (i use Macs exclusively)

Peace.

You know what, I've already downloaded xAXT and just haven't had a chance to use it yet. I'm glad to hear that the prospects are good.
I also went ahead and downloaded Flip4Mac, Masahiko, though I have a Windows Media for Mac application that I think does the same thing. Doesn't hurt to have another bullet in the chamber.
Thanks to both you folks.

Toast Titanium 7 supports flac. That is you can rip a CD directly from the flac files.

You can get MacFlac or xACT here:

http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html

also the command line version of flac which can get you by some problems
that the GUI based stuff can't deal with. Like effed up checksums and such.
I hate to spend a week with a bit torrent only to have it useless because of
such problems. The command line has saved me several times.

not for the novice though

peace
John

Don't have a Mac, but those commercials with the two guys, one a Mac and one a Windows box are hilarious.
