I'll Be The One

When you're walking down the street
I'll be the one that stares like a statue
You turn the corner
I'll be the one that follows you downtown
When you finally notice me
I'll be the one fumbling with his feelings
Totally oblivious to anything and everything else around

Girl, when we met
I'll be the one that showers you with attention
To win your love
I'll fight until the very end
When you treat me like a fool
I'll be the one that doesn't need redemption
Yeah, drive me away
I'll keep coming back again and again

I'll be the rain if you want me to be
Help you to groa with no guarantee
Even be the clown sad but true
But don't use me up
Or I'll be the one that used to worship you

When silence fills your world
I'll be the one that knows what you're thinking
And when passion burns like fire
I'll be the one bathing in the light
When the curse of darkness falls
I'll be the one who offers a candle
I'll even be the cushion
For things that go crazy in the night

I'll be the rain if you want me to be
Help you to groa with no guarantee
Even be the clown sad but true
But don't use me up
Or I'll be the one that used to worship you

I'll be the rain if you want me to be
Help you to groa with no guarantee
Even be the clown sad but true
But don't use me up
Or I'll be the one that used to worship you

On the banks of the deep end
Where your soul is your best friend
Searching for a reason to go astray
Wild dreams turn to nightmares
Silver clouds turn to golden stairs
And everything that you used to know is slipping away

Here, I've got my puzzle piece
Only got it for a short-term lease
No time for asking, no going back to get hurt
I take a little from the mixture
Try to fit it into the picture
Got a place where you're standing, dig your shoes into the dirt

Trying hard to get back, running on the stones
Put you on my shoulders, we can be the only one
See the world's still spinning round, getting dizzy when we look

There's a reason to be home, there's a feeling when you smile
But it feels like it might take over, this feeling deep inside
And there's a distance down the line, far away from the station
We can leave it all behind on a rolling creation

Sit away from the window and lock the door
Can't you learn from the last time and the time before
See the world's still spinning round, getting dizzy when we look

Got to leave town
To see the yellow flowers bloom
Sun going down
It's gonna be rising soon

On the banks of the deep end
Twisted as the river bend
Searching for a reason to go astray

You couldn't hire twenty five men to do what the man could do (note 1)
Just the sound of his walking could split the whole damn town in two
Into the night full of shadows, he still walks when the thunder rolls
This river ain't shallow, reminds us that the bell still tolls

Bears in the kitchen, tigers on TV
The singer's pretending that this song's for me
See the world's still spinning round, getting dizzy when we look

You took a wrong turn down by the waterline
I heard they had to drag you off the sand
Find a dune and the wind will miss you
Hold on to a piece of dry land
Got to hold on to a piece of dry land
Got to hold on to a piece of dry land

On the banks of the deep end
Where I lost my best friend
Searching for a reason
To go astray

Doug

How about "I Shall Return." That one seesm to be one of the more genuinely uplifting Mule song I know of.

Not too many uplifting Mule songs but Warren's most uplifting song has to be Soulshine which is one of two songs currently in use as both an Allman song and a Mule song.

I'm gonna go with Lay of the Sunflower. Some people might say it's depressing, but I think it's very uplifting. I think we already listed all of Warren's uplifting songs...it's pretty hard to find happy warren songs.

Most of the mule catelogue is not uplifting in a sweet way. Lay Your Burden Down is both uplifting and ominous.

The only song that qualifies clearly is Soulshine and I guess that must be why it's played at nearly every show.

To Warren (if you read this): Hint, hint. Can you write another one like Soulshine so you can give my bored Soulshine region of the brain a break? :-)

I've been to 4 mule shows this year and haven't heard it once. Six ABB shows and heard it twice.

Not to argue, but I assume you didn't make the Hunter Mt, Boston or Atlantic City shows in June. Soulshine was performed at all three. Maybe Warren just likes to annoy me and not give you what you want at your shows. LOL.

No I was not at those shows. But they do play it frequently and when you attend 25 shows in a year you are going to hear it a lot. I thought I was never going to get away from Rocking Horse until Jones Beach this year. I also head Egypt all three times they played it at the Beaconthis year and have yet to hear Whipping Post performed live. So it's the luck of the draw. I was quite pleased with the Allman set from the Beach this year and I was very happy with the Mule set from 12/29. the Mule a Go Go show I attended.

Oh my, you have to hear Whipping Post live. Damn. When is your next ABB show? You should have made the trip to the AC show cause it was a a wild WP that night for sure. Oteil's bass went right through me.

As for Soulshine, I know what you're saying. I just like to comment about it every now and then though. LOL.
