I guess there are many of you out there who don't know anything about Taylor hicks. I see people posting that because he was on AI he isn't a real musician. He has been kicking around the bar scene for about 10 years touring the south. He has been jamming in bars , Writing original music ,while his friends have been doing the nine to five and saving for retirement. His band does a jamming version of southbound and call me the breeze .If you think because he finally has a chance to put some change in his pockets he isn't a real musician you are nuts. This guy can play and loves music. I hope he doesn't sell out with the fame he is getting . Taylor's band is a hard working band . Take a listen. I will post a link to a site GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE BOTTON UNDER LIVE SET # 1 check out southbound TAYLOR on HARP!!!!!!!!!!! This guy was just about to hang it up before American Idol to go work in a bank or some crap.

I'm with you, brother! I see the talent Taylor has and look forward to his upcoming cd. And like you, I hope he doesn't 'sell out' to the pop fame like so many others have done. There's a few of us here who like Taylor a lot.

i would like to hear what others who listen to the link have to say about his band. The AI single was a song he had to sing . I would think his new disc he is working on with be more soul and rock. He has two other discs pre AI with original stuff , they are pretty good on a low budget. please post replies to the link.

Went to the link. The setlists are nice. I bet he has a good band.

I heard him in Birmingham with the ABB and he did fine. They aren't about to let nothing less than a great player play with them.

I like him.

In fact he's the only AI performer that I would actually consider buying his music.

I really liked the way he handled himself with the Brothers in B'ham--didn't try to be the "star," played an appropriate role, didn't go to the center of the stage, wag his butt, say, "Look at me!" Respectful.

I have a tinge of bitterness in that I see people all the time with as much or more tallent, paying their dues year after year, that can't get out of Podunkville. An excellent example is Taylor's former partner Albert Simson, who perserveres with the band they cofounded, Highly Kind. Coming into the City Stages show, his band had just done 10 gigs in 8 days in So. Carolina, Ga., and Ala., finishing up Sat. night at 3AM. Yet, there he and his wife were, with 8 or 9 young musicians in tow, for the DTB set and the ABB set Sun. afternoon, smiling from ear to ear. He did go to sleep in an armchair between sets, but the point is--there are so many deserving souls out there, doing all the right things, but still going through life in relative obscurity. Doesn't seem fair sometimes.

But more power to Taylor. He had the guts to go to Vegas and try out, and the talent to back it up. Hope he has a great ride.

Taylor is being marketed properly to the right audience (IMHO). Sitting in with the Brothers and then with WSP.
I suspect he will fufill the terms of his contract with the AI folks and try and nake the CD's about him and his music (as much as they let him).

Good Luck to Taylor.

They won't let him. Don't be fooled by who he has sat in with. This is a big bucks commercial operation. The songs will be picked for him as will the musicians and style. Not saying it will be bad but it won't appeal to most of the ABB or WSP fanbases.

The year before Bo Bice jammed around with various Southern rockers also but Clive Davies kept tight range over the CD. It has to appeal to the masses that watched AI to sell. That sadly is not us.

if they released some oldtime R&B CD then it would never achieve the sales and money that the record company wants to make. Remember without AI, he would still be playing clubs as a relative unknown. The CD will have some R&B elements because that is his style but it will be very commercial.

The AI contract has a beginning and an end. He has spoken to those who will give him full freedom in the studio. He will have options at some point, not that far away. He wouldn't be the first son of the South to hit it big, get a major contract, go to LA for a couple of albums to fulfill the contract, return to Alabama to follow his heart.
