Some of you may have read this already http://www.dustysommers.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&s id=19&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
a very well written story by Dusty Sommers about his relationship with Duane Allman.
worth a second read, certainly a first, if you've never seen it.

It ends with a great teaser, and when I wrote to him recently asking when there'd be more, Dusty described some computer problems, but said he'd work on it. Maybe if enough people ask real nice he'll get it done sooner rather than later. I think clicking here will send you to a pm form for him.

That was only question #1...there are 9 more I asked for that interview.
To get the real feel of things you have to go to Rogue Island out at the Big River and sit on the deck and listen to Dusty play while he is talking about Duane.

...ha ha ha...I just spent about 3 hours catching up on reading in the Duane forum after being off the computer for the most part of the last 3 months or so( I haven't even been on my site yet either, never mind checking my pm's or returning phone call's, right Patty lol)....and read all the posts about the New book and such( and Ann's recolections.. what a wonderfull woman!!! We are so blessed to have her here!!!)... and then came across this ... after taking a walk along the water with the dog and thinking about all that I read about my old friend...So I guess its some type of cosmic sign lol!!! from aahhh, I wonder who??????? hehehe

the old computer is still in the cellar...with all the files in it or on floppy's....and OMG my book too...hahaha...

but I'll pull it up and see what I can get out of it...if not...I'll do it over...one way or the other...

I still smile when I think back to those days... and very little is mentioned about those days when the band stayed in Boston with us....and back in August, at a wake, I ran into my Partner's ex wife ( he's been dead about 30 years) she told me she had some picture's from back then,
and I'm the last man standing....
So I guess its my duty

Mucho thanks for your interest!!!!! Thanks homeboy!!!!
and the next rainy day,I'll get to it!!!!!

Funny how I still need my big Brother Duane to kick my arse in gear hahaha!
Peace and Happiness.......
Dusty

Hey folks ...sorry about the delay... before christmas I dug out the old computer and put it back togeather.. and it still clucked like a hen laying a egg and dident boot up....

so that was the easy part... tommorow Im going over a friends house wth about 20 floppys and see which one had the interview on it.. I would always back up whatIi wrote, just in case the computer crashed.. little did i know that my new computer does not have a floppy insert.....

and for most of the month of December I was emailing Kim Payne back and forth, trying to tweak his memory from 69 to when he got fired in aahh I think 73.... and let me tell ya,, it takes something outta ya... just thinking about it all.. and trying to get it right...writing it down then thinking about it.... its bitter sweet memories.....to say the least...

heres something you will find nowere...its off the top of my head ,,but its been burned into my brain...hahahaha

Now I'm sure y'all that after Duane passed on.. both Butch and Dickie would have dreams of Duane, and they would ask were he was and he would tell them that he was off playing with Delaney & Bonnie, then they would wake up and realize it was just a dream ....

Back in what ever the year the Festival Express was I was up in Toronto a few days before to concert, I had left our Place in Boston..
Now if its possible to make a long story short( but dont count on it )

So we left in 3 VW bus's and when we got their was pulled right over at the CNE arena by a unmarked police car.. first thing I though was 'Busted', it was a rule of the road that canada was cool to bring in .. put to go back to the usa, clean..very clean!!! but they were very cool and showed us were to camp and gave us their card.. and telling us to enjoy ourself's...

and those of you who have watched the DVD.. saw that the 'free music people' were planning to knock down the gates and 'Liberate the concert'...So the Promoters came up with the idea of having a 'People Concert' in the large field on the side of the CNE so their would'ent be riot's....just a small stage and some of the band's did a show their...

I had backstage pass's so I had the run of both places... the Dead Played ( and also smoked all our gold during both gig's ) but I'm getting off track... one of the groups to play were' Delaney& Bonnie and friend's" and the rumour going around was that either Eric or George Harrison would be playing with them...but as I walked around to get behind the stage... who do I walk into.. but Duane in a Tie dye tee and his SG guitar for playing slide and I said 'what are you doing here ????' he said Delaney asked me to play and here I am' and I went 'aaaww man, I heard Eric or George were gonna be playing with Delaney' he said 'Nope But I'm here!!! and to this day , I smile and shake my head when I think what I said... I have to...there's nothing else I can do...

I said' but I see you all the time and he just laffed and gave me that big smile of his and a half a hug with his free arm....later on stage he would stick his tounge out at me and laff hahaha... What a guy!!!!

.Now years later during the ER tour , I was with Bonnie and asked her about it.. and she said 'Darling you got some memory he sure was and gave me a big kiss!!!!!"

Now I went all over that Festival Express DVD...both DVDs and the outtakes and nothing of Duane and he was their for only that Toronto People Concert thing I guess never saw him after that up there..... but someplace theres a bunch of film...because there was a big professional camera filming it..... if the right people look and ask.. Im sure they will find what their looking for....

and this was also told to Gregory years back and he said,, yep thats was my Brother, get up and go play...seems if he had a day or two and the ABB were not playing he was off....

I hope this will hold ya's till I get the floppys.. but when I started PM's in the last few days from a gentalman who I hold in the highest esteem.. Ron Currens AKA Hophead asking me for more Duane....I could'ent tell him no.... this one's for you Bro....your the man and thanks for everything!!!!

ps and for those of you who pm'ed me.. for some reason....I lost about 10 unopened pm's..between sept to dec... dont know how or why... but again.. sorry for the delay.. and I hope ya enjoy it!!!!

ps..I edited a bit, this morn.... it could be that I was doing it late at night and mixed up a month, a year or so.... so much for living back in those crazy days.....but thats what I remember from the festival Express... that and getting a kiss from Janis Joplin

Thank you, Brother Dusty!!!

The Festival Express pulled into Toronto for two days, June 27-28, 1970 -- the weekend before the Byron Festival. I had no idea that Duane appeared with Delaney and Bonnie at that show!

Somebody's gotta FIND that footage!

More info on the Festival Express is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festival_Express

I've seen the Festival Express DVD. In it they claim (I believe) that the footage they used was the only available or uasable. Shame because the only snippet of Delaney & Bonnie is them playing a little on the train. The best footage is Janis and Jerry and a bunch of others sitting around playing on the train. IMO.

I have the DVD. It is nice to see what footage was usable, but really disappointing knowing there was a lot more music that didn't survive or wasn't filmed. The little bit of Delaney & Bonnie on the train looks and sounds to me like it is Leslie West (Mountain) jamming with them.

Another thought...lets hear about Powder Ridge. Where the ABB "supposedly" didn't play. But maybe they really did...
