Hey, gang...did anyone reply to Lana's email about your most hated venues? If so, what were some of your replies?

Mine include:

The Meadowlands Arena, East Rutherford, NJ (it has a corporate moniker, but I don't use it). Why?
Expensive concessions
Bad location (and no mass transit)
Parking $10- $15
Bad sound

The (former) Garden State Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ. Why?
Expensive concessions ($8 beers last time I checked)
Security throws you out as SOON as you get back to your car (i.e. encouraging massive drinking and driving)
Lawn section is a mess by August (dried out or matted down)
Sound not great
Sightlines not great from upper sections

Anyone else?

Hey Laura,
I could'nt agree more about Continental Airlines Arena in Jersey. I recently attended Pearl Jam on 6-1-06 and the sound was absolutely the worst I have ever heard. Someone forgot to put a ceiling in that place. You get far better sound in most Outdoor Venues on a windy night. I saw the Allman Brothers on Tuesday at Jones Beach and it was a very windy night. The sound was'nt the greatest, but it was leaps and bounds better than that caverness monstrosity in Jersey.Me and my buds are gonna skip that venue from now on .Not worth the traffic hassles from Long Island. The only thing that will get me back to the Meadowlands is tickets to see my NY Football Giants !!!!!

Peace!!!!!!!! Pete

Yup, Meadowlands is a nightmare for all the reasons laura said. A major pain in the a$$ to get in and out of, expensives as hell and a lousy sound to boot.

I don't mind PNC. I've been lucky not to have been on that lawn.

Hey! I dunno....it was really crowded last year up on the lawn and the sound was awful. Plus, with the Mule playing too, there's no way I can get there by 6PM as my train home arrives at 7 in Red Bank. SO I think I mentally checked out of the whole thing this year.

HOWEVER>>>I may have a new job by then, in which case I may try and make it after all! Anyone got a good seat? (And I mean a GOOD seat)

Continental Airlines Arena in NJ. For all the reasons mentioned above. And just in case nobody mentioned it, the sound sucks, sight lines from most seats are horrible, parking and concessions are outrageous, getting there sucks and getting out of there is worse. I mean, your leaving the parking area, the ramp to the turnpike which is right there is closed and I swear they send you around the place in circles three times before they let you out.

I thought the sound was pretty good at Jones Beach. My guess is the closer you are to the stage the better it is. In Jones Beach they do sell beer, but only to the VIP section (which doesn't really make much sense when you think about it).

THe Nissan Pavillion (Nazi Pavillion)

1. Nazi security. from body cavity searches to get in to hassling people for BS.

2. Sound is marginal

3. The sell you expensive beer then stop every 5th car after the show for a DUI, drug search of your car.

If you're gonna play the DC area why not go with Merriweather Post, Much nicer vibe.

Yeah, once again the wealthy yups that can afford those big $$$ VIP seats get to drink to their hearts desire while us poor folk have to settle for Coca Cola. I guess the people with the cash can drive better under the influence than the less well off.

John,

Nissan not that damn bad, I think a lot of people want Merriweather just for nostalgia purposes, now of course, if I was a touring band I would hate to play Merriweather simply because it's an old facility, not centrally located. The big mistake here, is that Lana asked about the most hated venues, is she would have been smart she would have asked what venues would you most like to see the ABB play. And in the DC area I would say Wolf Trap Filene Center. Excellent facilities, good lines of sight, good sound, lets patron bring their own food and beverages (lawn seating only), easy access off the beltway, National Park rangers, instead of jock/ex-marines as security. Truth be told it blows away both Merriweather and Nissan by a large margin.
