I apologize if this has already been posted, but if it hasn't, here's video footage of Berry's last show. From ABC-TV's 2nd In Concert show on 11.2.72, Hofstra University. R.I.P.

Look at B.O.'s bass. That's how I built my Tractor replica.

Wow, this takes me back...I was in the service, getting ready to ship overseas to Okinawa when this show aired. Still in shock at BO dying. Couldn't get the song Ramblin Man out of my head, and didn't hear it again for 9 months or so until Brothers& Sisters came out. Thanks for the post, reminds me (again) of how the years are passing by. BTW, didn't they play One Way Out on the show also?

Hey Clay
good to see you around.

That is one hell of a 16 second tease. Very sharp though.

"... there ain't no such thing as dyin'"

I just watched that sequence two times in a row. I'm sitting here with red, wet eyes.

This footage was shot less than a year after Duane departed, weeks before berry would be gone, and months before the Allman Brothers Band would become "the biggest band in the world".

My, how things would soon change. It seems the higher the peak that you reach, the harder and faster the ride back down the other side can be.

These were some beautiful cats! They were just missing somebody.

I love the current line-up. At City Stages I darn near poked this man for telling his son that he had "seen them when they were real". But I sure miss Duane and Berry.

I am so thankful that the band is back and firing on all cylinders. Rock on Warren, Derek, Oteil and Marc! Thank you Jaimoe, Butch and Gregg for keeping it burning for all of us!

Nice sentiments, Rusty. I agree wholeheartly. Even on poking the guy talking to his son. I run into such people & comments at what seems like every show I go to.

Youtube is super cool. I like having my very own copy though

Well said, Rusty. I'd like to buy you a drink and raise the glasses with you, brother.

I don't have more of B.O., but I have some very brief silent clips of Duane, one with a sax player, one kissing the camera. For fanatics only (uh, that would be anyone reading this, I guess). They're on my computer and they say .gif. I am ignorant, computer-wise, I have a mac and all I know is that they won't load onto youtube cause they're not .avi, .mpeg or.mov.
Anyone with any advice, or anyone that has them can load 'em onto youtube ?
Thanks for starting this thread, Clay. I had heard the Allman Brothers for the first time on EAP, summer of '72, was bemoaning the fact that I had not gotten to see Duane play, and saw the In Concert Show on TV.
A little over a week later . . .

homeboy,

The ones you mention seem like the same ones from their HOF induction.

Clay, those were the best 16 seconds I've had today-way cool.

You can see on the video that there is still a microphone stand set up in Duane's spot.
It's real obvious at 6:12 and again when Dickey is doing the solo in "Ramblin' Man" (he's standing right behind it). At 15:00 it's in the center of the picture with a spotlight shining on it and when the camera pulls back from Dickey at 16:20 the focus is on where Duane should have been standing. Pretty powerful.

I remember real well where I was when I found out about Berry's passing. I was in the Army at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas doing ADT (Active Duty for Training) and I got a letter from my mother and I waited until I sat down with my lunch to open it. My mother liked to send me news from home and there were several newspaper clippings in the envelope along with her letter. One of them was Berry's obituary and my heart sank when I read it. "Uh oh, somebody died," I said and my buddy asked, "Did you know him?" and I replied, "I feel like I did," but I didn't feel much like eating my lunch after that or doing anything else the rest of the day either. Feels like yesterday.
