I have it on VHS but I haven't transferred it to DVD yet. The sound quality sucked plus since I was away from home that night I set the VCR to record in SLP mode because I wasn't sure what the show would consist of. For some reason the sound quality was really low but during the parts they talked to Kirk it was fine.

I've got it............On VHS........It's a 3 hour show with an opening act (2 songs) and a bit of talking with announcer and Kirk.......Even if you cut that out, it's still 2 1/2 hours. I taped it on a Super High Grade tape at LP (4 hr speed). I feel it's an excellent copy.
I can't believe this is being brought up. I've asked around the last few months if anybody had it, and got no response. I had planned for this to be my first "BIG" DVD project.
After 3 months, I've finally learned how to do DVDs. I've spent the last 2 weeks burning DVDs I've gotten or downloaded. I had planned to tackle this show, this weekend. My only problem will be the chapter points. That I've never tried yet.
Let me run this past ya'll.....
I'll transfer the VHS to disc on my standalone DVR, on two discs....1st disc will be the intro, 1st electric set and the acoustic set, then there's a bit of talk with Kirk.....I'll cut it right there....Perfect, just shy of 2 hrs. The 2nd disc will be the 2nd electric set....IMO...is Hot. Then, the discs will go on my computer, and I've got to use TMPgenc, to put the chapter points in. This is the thing, I've never done yet.
Am I on the right track ? This is what I'll do......I'll make the transfer to disc and try all weekend to work with TMPgenc......If I run into problems (which I expect to already, since that's the way it's been with me on this whole DVD learning process).....I'll send the discs to one of you guys, who know what you're doing, to do the chapter points. OK ?
I want to do this, the proper way, since this is the way DVD shows I've received are setup. When I play a CD or DVD, I start at the beginning and let it play, I don't jump around the tracks, but that's me.
If anyone has any advice to throw my way, it'll be much appreciated, and then, I'd like to get this show circulated out there. I've felt, this is one way to offer something to all you guys who seem to have everything but this, and have been so generous in sharing with me. BTW........I see you guys have a lot that I don't, but I've got a ton of VHS, of various bands, that I think you don't have.....And I wanna share.....More to come from me, in the near future........X

I'm interested in a dvd copy if you ever get this show ready to circulate. Isn't this Jack Pearson and Dickey? If this is what I think it is, then this is the Pay Per View where the satelite feed went bad during the broadcast of the show. I don't know how widespread the bad satelite feed was but it RUINED my vhs tape of the show. I had paid for the show and as I sat there watching it and taping it the damned feed went bad. I called the cable company telling them ALL ABOUT IT and the result was I was not charged for the show.

The best method would be to capture into your computer using a good
capture card in DV format. This would give the best quality, though a
lot of disk space is required (about 12GB per hour). Then use a good
encoding program to encode to mpeg-2 at the best encoding rate based on the
size you want (size and number of DVDs).

When you capture to a standalone DVD recorder it is doing the mpeg encoding
at that point and you really can't change it after that. Do you have any options on
how the DVD recorder encodes the mpeg-2?

What I would suggest is to see if this show has already been transferred in a good version that does not have Dreams split in two. No sense going through all the work if a good copy of the show is already in circulation.

I use the db.etree.org search engine to see if a show is already in circulation. Etree is the database with the largest membership. If it is not in Etree, that does not mean it doesn't exist, but it does mean it's not circulated. I did a quick check and dvds of this show already exist and there are hundreds of users with this date. Many of the listings were for the dvd, not just the cds. The next step would be to figure out how many dvd versions are out there and if there is one without the Dreams split by contacting some of the users with the dvds.

If a very good version exists there is no reason to create another version. The version that exists may already be better than the one you will create anyway, so then your new version would be further contaminating the "pool" of this show with another inferior version.

I use this as a guide for audio when deciding to transfer from tape to CD also. I only transfer shows that are not already in circulation, unless the circulating version is only poor or fair quality and my tape quality is better quality.

Just a litte FYI on this topic for y'all.
