another fantastic show by the Mule. Nice meeting a bunch of friendy's at the 257 Bar & Steakhouse next door before the show. Only downside was the guy standing a few people away from me that was screaming at the top of lungs all the way through "Come On In To My Kitchen"...other than that, great stuff.

I made it to the show, it was great, my first mule show in six years. Smattermonnat, were you sitting up in the balcony? there was a guy screaming all night like 4 seats away from me.

Also, this may be a stupid question, the fist song of the second set was hide your love? who wrote this song?

Hide Your Love Away was written by John Lennon...
I was 4th row center (best seats I've ever had for a Mule show) however there is absolutely no bad seat in the Stanley whatsoever.

Are you talking about "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away"? If so, all Beatles songs are credited to Lennon and McCartney.

thanks for the info. To be honest I have never really been a Beatles fan, but I think warren does a great job. I have to agree that the Stanley is one of the best indoor venues for sound quality.

Okay...the Utica show ROCKED! I met up with my friend in Syracuse, had lunch at the Dino BBQ, then we were on the road for the show. On our way there, we glanced over at a field full of horses, but this one 'horse' looked a little different than the rest! It was a freakin' MULE! It was like a sign or something, right? We pulled into town and after getting situated at the hotel, we headed to the bar next door to the venue. The place was packed, and having inexperienced bartenders (one who was about 5 months along) didn't help. The vibes were pretty good there, except this drunk dude who was being too loud. You'll have that.

After enjoying a before-show drink (or two?), we headed next door. I was told by a guy who went to college in Utica that he thought they were going to tear the theatre down because it was old and run-down. I gotta tell ya, this guy needs to make a return visit to the place. It was absolutely gorgeous, and just what I've come to expect from the small theatres. We headed up to our seats (Row C ~ woo hoo!), and the rest is history. We got up to the front, as the ushers were pretty cool. I was standing next to this dude who got lucky enough to get front row for his first-ever Mule show. He was having a blast! We were high-fiving and having a great time, as the Mule played their asses off for us.

My review? Just another great show by Warren and the boys. They rocked out, and everyone had a good time. After the show, we hung out by the bus (what can I say, I am a shameless groupie!!) and talked to Warren and Matt. We told Warren about our mule story, and we all got a chuckle out of it. This band is by far, the most friendly group of people you could ever meet. Warren took his time with each person, not looking at his watch, not trying to get away. He stood for so many pics, and if one didn't turn out, he'd say, "Well, let's try that again." Matt was all smiles, too.

When's my next show? It can't be soon enough. I've travelled as far as California for these guys (from New York), and I hope that I can someday make an overseas trip.

Glad you enjoyed your first show in 6 years, dwoodyjr. Hope it's not that long before your next!

Great, great show.....The Stanley was the sight of my first ever concert....Kansas in 1986. The Stanley is really a hidden gem in Central, New York. As mentioned by local DJ Jerry Krause, it shortly will undergo a 16 million dollar renovation. I also heard this from several staff members of the Stanley. Incidentally, they completed a similar one about 8-10 years ago. If you ever get the chance to attend a show here, DO SO. Great sound, good vibes, and fairly hassle free. It's very similar to the Beacon but a little smaller.

By the way, on the way home Smatter and I stopped for a coffee break at a local Fast Trac. While in line, I struck up a conversation with the very same Jerry Krause who introduced 'Mule at the show (He's a local celebrity DJ for WOUR 96.9 and usually introduces all the bands that play at the Stanley). There were a few other 'Mule fans in line as well. Anyway, Jerry claimed that he had intended to make a big announcement during the introductions but was told not to as it wasn't confimed as of Sunday night....That announcement being that the Allman Brothers with an as yet un determined opening act, may be playing the Stanley theatre on Sunday, July 2nd. Of course, it got all of our attention.....Has anyone heard any talk of this show?

Smatter and I were able to see Brian Farmer "prepping" this bad boy before Warren played it. We were curious just what tune he would use it for. I suspect Warren probably got it from the Gibson Custom Shop which is where he gets most of his new guitars....That's my guess anyway.

Yeah, check out Mule's In the Studio. If I'm not going batty, they have a segment where Brian notes that there were only 2 of them made. I can't recall the session, but it's there in either the Hoboken or Austin sessions.

Where I was up front, I could see someone wearing a sign around his / her neck that said, "Please play your 12-string, Warren". As soon as I saw Warren slip that baby over his shoulder, I looked over to the sign-holder as the sign was being removed! It worked! Now, I'll be planning verrrry carefully what 'my' sign will say! hehe {evil laugh}

Mudflap......my buddy Martin was the guy with the sign.......we are huge fans of Warren and the 12 string....but I couldn't make the show.....so martin brought the sign and that lucky SOB got Warren to play it!!!!!!!!!!!

some 12 string and gibson stuff
http://www.gibson.com/absolutenm/templates/_gibsonnewstemplate.aspx?article id=301&zoneid=2

CG: Tell me about your Gibsons.
WH: Mostly in Gov’t Mule I tend to play Les Pauls and Firebirds, mostly non-reverse Firebirds. I have an Explorer that I play slide on. I have one of the only two Gibson Les Paul 12-strings in the world. With The Allman Brothers I played mostly Les Pauls and 335s and my ‘61 dot-neck 335 that I’ve had for a long time is primarily a recording guitar. I hardly ever use it on the road. Or I play it in New York City where I live. When I was working with The Dead, I tended to go for a not quite as big a sound so I would use SGs primarily. I have a Korina Les Paul that is kinda unique sounding that worked out in The Grateful Dead as well. As you can see I have just a large array of Gibson guitars

Sweet, VERN-OH! Sorry you couldn't make the show, it was a good one...but I say that every time! It was funny to see the sign around your friend's neck earlier on in the night, like he was advertising something. Hope it made his night!

UTICA.......sign again.....and Farmer tuned it up at the set break

If you wanna hear a killer 12 string....check out the Raga Mule Jam after drums on 10/21/04.......Fade to Black tease.....awsome stuff!!!!!!!!!!!

MORE 12 STRING PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was at that Buffalo show! I would bet we've probably stood right next to eachother a few times...being 'huge' fans and all. I'll keep an eye out for the sign next time...

I'll try to get ahold of the show you mentioned, it sounds like it rocked!!

Hey I checked out your site, and I'm just waiting to be approved as a member. Any way I can keep in touch with people who feel like I do about Mule and Warren, I'm there!

I'll keep my eye out at my next show for a bald guy in a tye-dye!

I'd love to make it to the Mountain Jam, even for just one day...but it looks my next show will be in Pittsburgh. Can't wait!
