Jack is severely under-rated and sorely under-appreciated.

First off, when it comes to Jack Pearson just what does "underrated" even mean? WE all know how good he is...

Outside of the ABB family, Jack is a virtual unknown anyway. He has stayed out of the spotlight his entire career because he probably chooses to and likes it that way - he is a quiet unassuming gentleman. 90% of the folks here, including myslef love Jack's playing. You can't be underrated when nobody knows who you are - there is nobody to underrate him. If Jack was in a popular Jamband with lots of exposure and a big fanbase, trust me, everyone would know who he is...WE all appreciate his amazing talents. Outside of here, well, who cares?

I agree also. He is awesome. what a great tone and sound. I thought the band sounded great in 98 but in 99 I think Dickey's antics and the loud volume on stage took their toll on Jack.

If never seen a full on bad ABB show but the beacon show I saw in 99 was probably the weakest I've seen. No fault of Jack's. I could just tell the band wasn't into it.

jack pearson's musicianship is amazing & wonderful, accessible and intellectual, avant-garde and down home, all at the same time. my lovely bride and i once had the privilege of standing a few feet from him while he played a Dreams solo that, in maybe 3 or 4 minutes, surveyed the history of all previous Dreams solos and added something new and jackPearsonian at the conclusion. then he turned towards Dickey and Oteil -- we were standing even with Oteil, hidden behind some speakers -- and smiled a shy little smile i'll never forget, a little grin that seemed to say so much more than any words could convey. 8 years ago this July, it was, 7-4-98.

someone made me a CD several years back with 3 full versions of High Falls with 3 Jack HF solos in between. 6 Pearson HF solos in all, from '98, and when you say of a guitarist that his solo on a particular song isn't the same twice, baby, it's an entirely different RIVER 6 times in a row.

and that's today's shout-out to Jackie Pearson. go get 'em this weekend, daddy-o!

Jack is unknown: yes...underrated: no

I second a previous poster in saying that virtually anyone who's heard ABB during the Jack years will attest to his skill and musicianship. The first ABB show I saw was with Jack, and it was one of the best I've ever seen. If I've ever got a ticket to a show and Warren or Derek can't make it, Mr. Pearson is most certainly a welcome substitute, IMHO.

Only until you see the cat live.FLUID is how I describe his playing. he can play the ABB, jazz, blues, accoustic ,electric. Truly one of my all time favorite players.

I love the JP years in the ABB, wish I was in Florida today!

Saw Jack at Montage along w/ Derek and Warren when he first came back. Greattt performer. I love his slide playing more than Warren. Jack replacing Derek for a show= I'd be upset. Jack replacing Warren for a show = Amazing. I guess i am biased with Derek, but those two flow together well. Jack is by far one of the most underrated guitarists to step in with the ABB, next to Jimmy Herring.

I wanted to go to Wannee so bad, and jack was a huge reason why. I have no problem seeing jack sub warren or derek for that matter at least once in a while...not taking either way from derek or warren, i'd just like a chance to see jack.

One of the best "Dimples" in recent memory- I'm so glad I purchased that Instant Live- wish I could have been there w/ you makimadni- Jack was spectacular. I did have the pleasure of seeing him at SPAC back in '98 and he blew me away- been a fan ever since. I do agree that it's hard for a guy no one knows to be unappreciated. the people that know him appreciate him a great deal I suspect so that's good enough for me.

Hehehe...good point. Compared to me he's great. But in the context of ABB guitarists, Duane, Dickey, Derek, Warren...he's pretty good. Definately better than Dangerous Dan, not as good as the current line-up. Again, that's just my opinion.

I love Jack's playing....... He comes as close to Duane's "feel" on guitar that I have ever heard. He just has that undercurrent of "soul" that seeps through. I'm not saying he's the best guitar player.... I'm just saying his style of play is IT for me.

Jack has been my all-time favorite guitar player for several years now...

In the grand scheme of things he will probably never be well-known. I guess that could always classify him as "under-rated". However I have turned many people on to him, who wouldn't otherwise know him. And every single one of those people has been BLOWN AWAY by him.

The first time I seen Jack play was last May with the ABB. Wow, I've been a fan ever since. I then got to see him last Oct. playing guitar for Jimmy Hall. Believe it or not he was even better playing with Jimmy Hall than he was the Bros. I'm going to go see Jack's band this May when he plays in Nashville. I've heard his band was really good and his wife is the bass player. I can't wait to see what kind of musical treat I'm in for.

Underrated? Not IMHO. Underexposed? Definitely! But then that also goes for Derek, the entire ABB, even Duane. That's what's so positive about the EC/Europe thing. It seems US media often don't pick up on what's going on under their noses until the Europeans draw it to their attention. If not for EC, Mayhall and others, many would have never discovered BB King, Hooker, Robert Johnson, so many more.

Go get 'em, Derek, and have fun doing it. And along the way, maybe open a few eyes and ears on both sides of the pond.
