Has anyone heard anything about ABB having some tour dates with Tom Petty this summer? I noticed a post with some info on the Petty board with more to be announced later in the week.

I usually come here to get my ABB fix and the info here is amazing. Just wondering if it's already known or if this is new info?

Thanks,

Highway61

This is a first for me

Are they talking about Petty being the opener or the ABB being the opener?

I like Petty and all but I hope its just a rumor

Pearl Jam is playing some dates with Petty, only confirmed so far for Denver and St Paul. The Petty dates are not confirmed yet except that the tour starts on June 9. Don't know where the ABB talk is coming from though.

Petty is also playing at banaroo festival in mid june-he is releasing new CD sometime soon and i heard will be having an extensive tour. Other than some big festival, there is no way Petty and ABB would play a show together. Both are headline acts and would play at least 2 hour sets.

I heard Petty last summer and Crowes opened. It was a great show, but only getting 1 hour of the Crowes with a half full theatre was a real bummer.

Tom Petty (tickets | music) and the Heartbreakers will be back on the road this summer to celebrate their 30th anniversary, and plan to perform with some special guests--including Pearl Jam (tickets | music)--on various dates.
So far, Petty and Company have confirmed that the run will launch June 9, and that Pearl Jam will be on board for a June 26-27 stand in St. Paul, MN, and a July 2-3 stand in Denver. Details are included below.

Additional dates haven't been announced, but plans call for more shows with Pearl Jam, as well as other "very special friends and opening acts," according to an announcement the band issued Wednesday (4/5).

Petty's website plans to offer ticket presales and other "special opportunities," the announcement said.

In addition to mapping out tour plans, Petty has also confirmed that he'll release a new album titled "Highway Companion" in July. A specific release date has not been announced.

I like Petty also but teaming them up with ABB or Pearl Jam is huge mismatch.Doesn't serve the fans of any of these bands.

However if Warren or Derek want to do double duty, Mule or DTB would be an awsome match !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS- I think Mule might work well with Pearl Jam and get some good exposure !!!!!

Peace !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd be in heaven!!! Where did you here this? Good source vs 4th hand? My favorite two bands to see live. Maybe they could do a two day show this way.

Yeah I'd much rather see Mule paired up with Pearl Jam than DMB

But the Mule by themselves is all I really need

Oh, and I just thought of the jamming possibilities! Now, a little mini-fest with dtb as the 3rd band-a mini wanee! I can dream lol.

I'm sure there are parts of the country where Petty and The Heartbreakers could draw more to a shed than ABB. I hope for their sake, though, that they are not asked to grace the stage AFTER ABB smokes a crowd........that would be a big mistake.

From the current RS:

"Petty plans to incorporate some of theses songs (from his upcoming release, Highway Companion) into the Heartbreakers tour this summer, which will kick off in June with openers including Pearl Jam, John Mayer, Trey Anastasio, AND, Petty hopes, the Allman Brothers Band.

I heard from a very good source re: Mule and ABB at Red Rocks. So far, this person hasn't been wrong whether it's a tip on special guests at the Beacon (3 years in a row he's been dead on right) and Summer tour plans. I don't want to get folks in a frenzy, so I'll just say it's a very "strong" rumor. How schweet would that be??!! RR+ABB+GM=

I think that's the issue, since they are working out the dates based on Derek's EC Tour plans. Two years ago, they played RR w/ SCI in July and last year it was in the late Summer/Fall. If I get more info, will be sure to share!

I like Jack's idea. Mini Wanee West @ The Rocks.
You could start each show @ 5, heck 2pm would be even better.

I hope not! When I saw Petty at Red Rocks last summer, he was too good. Let me explain that-the show was too slick. Petty preened for the crowd constantly and the light show background panels were too much for me-too distracting. The band (despite it basically being a greatest hits show, but how could it not be), especially Mike Campbell sounded great-no problems there. it was just a very different type show than the ABB's straight ahead full style.
