I saw the ABB in Holmdel, New Jersey on 8/23/05... and recently bought that instant live recording. That concert kicked ass, and I saw them this past Tuesday (3/21/06) at the Beacon.
Anyway, I'm going to buy another instant live recording from their 2005 summer tour, and I'd like some opinions about which one to buy. They're all probably really awesome, but right now at least I'm only gonna buy one of them. I'm looking for one that Derek and Warren were exceptionally amazing on.
Please, help...thanks. |

I am sure most agree that the ABB hit yet another level of excellence during the summer run, superceded only by the present Beacon run.
But anyway, one thing that stuck out a bit from last summer's tour and the prior Beacon run was Gregg doing Old Before My Time at the grand piano. I don't know, it just moved me both times.
So check out 7/17/05. Loaded with a lot of other gems as well.

i haven't heard too many, i attended the 7/15/05 show in VA beach and found it amazing, but i would just suggest finding a show that has a setlist you'd love, at hittinthenote.com they post the times next to the songs so you can find one with longer jams of the songs you like too...i want to buy atleast one or two and that's what i plan on doing |

Here is what I would suggest for you. We have the descriptions and setlists for all the shows from 2005 on our website at www.hittinthenote.com. Go to the Instant Live section, click on 2005, and go through them until you find a show (or shows) that give you the songs you want to hear the most. It is understood that the level of musicianship is pretty much even throughout the summer run last year, so it becomes more a matter of setlists.
Shows with particular notes (such as Philly when Warren was not there and Derek and Ron Holloway made up the "front line" as it were), or such as when Jack Pearson sat in with them in Knoxville with both Warren and Derek - all such notes are in the descriptions. Tip of the old hat to our Rob Johnson and John Lynskey for working very hard to bring all those well-done descriptions for you to check out.
Hope this helps, bro.

I particularly like the last show of the 2005 tour....Charlotte, NC. Killer versions of The Same Thing and Schoolgirl/Spoonful. But any show is sure to be great. Just remember that Warren missed some shows in August.

I was at the PNC show too, my high school graduation present and boy was it worth it, i've heard a few other shows, but in my opinion the PNC show was the best that i've heard. I agree with rusty, the atlanta show was cooking. |

My one and only last year. The Chicago/Rosemont summer show with Jack Pearson filling in for Warren last minute. Ask Joe Bell! It is one for the archives. "Whipping Post" by Jackie P took the roof off during the encore! It seems that people are choosing shows that had historic ABB connecting guests! ____________________ "Saying 'Southern Rock', is like saying, ROCK Rock." --GA |

Much better than I thought it would be...but as for the "Warren-less" shows, I thought the Philly show without Warren was a bit better...Derek carried it real tough that night. ____________________ "And for my amateur ears, in all my life, I've never heard the kind of music that this group plays. I thought the Rosemont show SMOKED-but maybe that's because I was in the Pit right in front of Derek.
I thought Jackie P. tore it up that night-things got a little slack during Franklin's Tower, his slide solo didn't do it for me, but Dimples did! All in all a very fine show, I thought. ____________________ "Love Like You've Never Been Hurt"-Satchel Paige |
