What is the etiquette for when you are sitting in a row with "tapers"? I've always gotten the impression that "tapers" feel like they are more important than anyone else (like they have more of a right to be there). They also have no problem telling people around them to use a different aisle of exit and to be perfectly quiet. Now, I respect their right to be there and to tape but they need to respect my right to be there and not tape. I hate to generalize based on a couple of bad experiences, but "tapers" seem like royal pr*cks to me. And it is true that they are all 40+ and live in their parents basements? I'm serious (except for that last sentence). Has anyone else had similar experiences with jerky tapers? And P.S. - I'm NOT one of those a-holes who scream out "Free Bird" right into theire microphones. I think those idiots are even worse than a Nazi "taper."

I can understand you or someone being put out by what your perceptions are, but...Tapers provide all of us for the most part, excellent recordings of these shows. If your in the orchestra, especially ath the Beacon, I think it might be eay to kinda mingle your way to another place and enjoy the show at your own comfort level.

The only experience I have had with a taper was when I saw GA&F at the Tabernacle last year. I saw a dude carrying his equipment out after the show and asked him, "Hey man, any chance I might be able to get a copy?" He was very polite and said yes, so I gave him one of my cards and he hooked me up not long after that. Nice guy, went by the name Z-man. Anybody else know Z-man?

Fitzy - I realize that his is only post #4 for you...but...a good rule of thumb would be to think BEFORE you type next time.

Believe me, your post won't make too many friends around here. Is that putting it mildly enough??

merlin28, way to be, always better to start out mild, You can always get more blunt later if/when needed, the "Tapers" have been a GodSend for most of us here, I've been gathering and listening to live shows only since '03, but for most its been much longer. whenever it's helpfull I always offer my seat to a "Taper", along with my addy, (only been stiffed once), it' much easier for me to move around as an individual concert goer than it would be for someone to drag all their equipment around.........Peace.....joe

Sorry for the bluntness Merlin, but I call 'em like I see 'em. If the royal p--
fits, it fits. You weren't there. Two for two on bad experiences with tapers.
I appreciate the tapes too, but it doesn't give them the right to treat
paying customers (just like them) poorly.

I know the Z-Man.
He rocks. What a great guy.
When I was sick after seeing 3 shows in a row, I gave Z-Man my ticket and he recorded the entire show from the SBD for me.

Z-Man = all around great guy :-)

Hey fitzy77,

I'm 40, a taper, own my own home, my parents live on the otherside of the US, I'm not a NAZI or a royal **** or jerky.

1) Please come clean with your experience with tapers. Where in the row were the tapers seated? In the middle? On the end? Were you DRUNK and carrying beers? I myself, as a concert goer not as a taper, can't stand it when someone walks through an entire row to get to their seat on the other the end. Walk around please, so you won't interupt 15 people from enjoying the show. Most important, you never said whether they asked you NICELY or not. ABB let's us tape from our seat. There is no taperssection. As for being quiet, were you LOUD, DRUNK, and OBNOXIOUS? A lot of people are at the Beacon. Sorry if I'm generalizing your behavior, but after reading your post, STFU.

2) Can't believe you were that stupid to use a NAZI reference on this Board, without using your head (its that fat lump 3 feet above your #ss) that it might alienate someone of Jewish heritage here.

3) Insult taken. I'll be sure to pass your assessment to the rest of the NAZI tapers.

Buy the taper sitting next to you a drink of his choice...they will appreciate it...just dont spill it on their equipment when you bring it back to them....LOL!!

Fitzy is evidently a young person that has not learned any etiquette - neither concert etiquette nor forum eitiquette....nor has he learned appreciation or gratitude. If he stays around here long, he will learn.

I'll bet he doesn't have much of a live shows collection either!

ahem, ahem...... uh-huh.

Ya know, I saw Dickey Betts at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, Ga a few years back..... there was only one taper at that show and Dickey and the boys were dead on hot that night, man alive!

I was seated at the board and we watched that young fella guard his rig all night long. As the show ended and just as he began to disassemble his rig a couple drunk guys came whizzin' across in front of the board crashing into the rig. Everything toppled onto that old hard cement floor into hundreds of pieces. None of us could react quickly enough to save it, but we tried.

All we have left is the memory of one of the best Dickey Betts shows ever and of the look on that taper's face. He was more hurt than angry.

Fitzy, I call it like I see it too. If you stay around here long enough, you'll learn that the tapers, I said "The Tapers", generate alot of respect around here & at the shows.

I've met quite a few of 'em. They love the music as much as we do, they pay for their tickets, they are very gracious and they are of quality character.

If you weren't at the 3/13 show and you listened to the stream on Live365, you can thank a taper. His name is TaperRob.

If you were at the show and are now thinking how much you'd love a copy of that one, thank Scott Brown, Derek McCabe, Yossi Pollack and others. There's a slew of 'em there.

fwwank, if this board is too pc for you, then find you another one!!

We certainly have no control over your computer and did not cause your computer to come to this site.

In other words, if you dont like it, then dont let the door hit you on the way out...(expressed in a pc way!!)

hey blue fox

just an observation...

doesn't mean I don't like it here

I'm a music fan first and foremost...so a few uptight people aren't gonna bring me down

in fact I'm rather gentlemanly and polite...

I just read a few posts and got a 'PC patrol on duty' vibe...I heartily believe in the 1st amendment so I'll say whatever I feel like saying.

also...I get a kick out of the people with 4000 posts who give **** to the people with 6 posts (like me)...just because yer new out here doesn't mean yer new to the AB scene.

IMO everyone's opinion counts.

ok...now start giving me **** .

fitzy77,

You asked a question about etiquette and it seems not much has been shown to you. Everyone who has been at this site for awhile has a great appreciation for tapers. An honest concern about the audience member's and a taper's rights/territiories is a valid question to be addressed. Either side could step out of bounds so let's talk about it rather than go into attack mode. Maybe someone will learn something and change an attitude or behavior (unless they are a-hole Nazis).

BTW, I took the Nazi reference in the same manner as the famous Seinfeld episode with the "soup Nazi", humorous characterture of extreme behavior in any profession. BTW, nobody said all tapers have that nasty Nazi temperment. The man's referring to one or two incidents he had experienced. Would be nice to hear a few more details.
