I know they don't play the same kind of music as the ABB.

But I get "Fired up" with some spiritual feeling when I here some of their songs...

They can play some good music............

Especially the song "Thief"

I am a thief, I am a murderer
Walking up this lonely hill
What have I done? I don't remember
No one knows just how I feel
and I know that my time is coming soon.
It's been so long. Oh, such a long time
Since I've lived with peace and rest
Now I am here, my destination
guess things work for the best
and I know that my time is coming soon
Who is this man? This man beside me
They call the King of the Jews
They don't believe that He's the Messiah
But, somehow I know it's true.
And they laugh at Him in mockery,
and beat Him till he bleeds
They nail Him to the rugged cross,
and raise Him, they raise Him up next to me
My time has come, I'm slowly fading
I deserve what I receive
Jesus when You are in Your kingdom
Could You please remember me
and He looks at me still holding on
the tears fall from His eyes
He says I tell the truth
Today, you will live with Me in paradise
and I know that my time is coming soon
and I know paradise is coming soon.

Every time I hear that song...I get a special feeling in my heart !!!!

Just wondering if any of you ever heard of or seen them.........

Kenny

I love Third Day. I'm glad there are bands like them out there spreading the word through music. My daughter introduced me to their music in late '01 and we got to see them at Starwood in '02 when they played to a near-sellout crowd(17,000ish, holds 18,500). They put on a really good show, and I would definitely like to see them again. Good call Kenny on "Thief", what a powerful song. I especially like to play "Thief" & "Love Song" at Easter time every year. "Love Song" sung from the perspective of Jesus, "I Don't Know", "Nothing Compares" and the rocker "Consuming Fire" are Third Day favorites of mine. Third Day is one of those bands that must be seen live to be fully appreciated - a great live band! A cool footnote on this Atlanta based band: their self-titled CD has a peach on the outside & inside of the front cover, and the CD itself looks like a peach.

Third Day has a really great sound. They have a rockin vibe that works real well for christian music. And the lead singer is one of the best I've ever heard.

But they desperatly need for someone show one of the 2 guitar players how to play some good strong extended solos.

I like Third Day a lot but sometimes the lead guitar is embarrasingly bad.

I've read interviews where they describe themselves as a "southern rock" group. And it really does fit except for the solos.

I've seen them a few times with my 18 year old daughter & her friends. Good music, great message, uplifting experience.......and a fun sing-a-long. They have a couple DVDs hat I have rented thru Netflix that are worthwhile.

Mac Powell is very charasmatic.

Cheers.

The band I play with at church does some Third Day covers occasionally. As far as Christian Contemporary music goes, they are my favorite.

Same here Big Dave as far as the Christian Contemporary..........

I was turned on to them by a friend of Sarah's (my Daughter) when she was a teenager. They can put some feeling and emotion that gets the word across.

Glad to see a few of you know about them.

It's the singer's voice that makes it so special........and the feeling.

a cross between Eddie Vedder and Phil Collins.

Let me know if you find and hear it !

Hey Brothers and Sisters. Big Third Day fan here!

I'm also in a Praise and Worship band at my church and we play Third Day along with many others. I have most of Third Day's CDs and DVDs and even have a few rare ones.

I'll toss out a few more contemporary Christian bands I like.

Jeremy Camp - First CD called Stay really rocks. There are not any bad tracks. Recent acoustic DVD is really good too.

Todd Agnew - More modern sounding vocals. Check out fisrt CD Grace Like Rain especially the song This Fragile Breath, we do a rockin version of this one. Second CD Reflections of Something check out My Jesus and In the Middle of Me.

My Jesus

Which Jesus do you follow?
Which Jesus do you serve?
If Ephesians says to imitate Christ
Then why do you look so much like the world?

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the arrogant
So which one do you want to be?

Blessed are the poor in spirit
Or do we pray to be blessed with the wealth of this land
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness
Or do we ache for another taste of this world of shifting sand

Cause my Jesus bled and died for my sins
He spent His time with thieves and sluts and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the rich
So which one do you want to be?

Who is this that you follow
This picture of the American dream
If Jesus was here would you walk right by on the other side or fall down and worship at His holy feet

Pretty blue eyes and curly brown hair and a clear complexion
Is how you see Him as He dies for Your sins
But the Word says He was battered and scarred
Or did you miss that part
Sometimes I doubt we'd recognize Him

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and the least of these
He loved the poor and accosted the comfortable
So which one do you want to be?

Cause my Jesus would never be accepted in my church
The blood and dirt on His feet would stain the carpet
But He reaches for the hurting and despised the proud
I think He'd prefer Beale St. to the stained glass crowd
And I know that He can hear me if I cry out loud

I want to be like my Jesus!
I want to be like my Jesus!

Not a posterchild for American prosperity, but like my Jesus
You see I'm tired of living for success and popularity
I want to be like my Jesus but I'm not sure what that means to be like You Jesus
Cause You said to live like You, love like You but then You died for me
Can I be like You Jesus?
I want to be like my Jesus

Chris Tomlin - The CD Arriving is awesome. A little lighter sound, but some amazing songs. Check out Indescribible, How Great is Our God, and many more.

Indescribible

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea
Creation's revealing Your majesty
From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
All exclaiming

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathom

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God
You are amazing God

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God
Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
Incomparable, unchangeable
You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same
You are amazing God
You are amazing God

I am a huge Third Day fan. I went to their show about 3 weeks ago. Had 2nd row center. I took a load of pictures, even had Mac Powell (vocals) lean over the stage next to my wife and had his picture taken with her while singing "Tunnel".
I walked out with a setlist and one of Mac's picks. The guy next to me was hanging around the stage and asked the roadie for a souvenier. The roadie says " I've got a GREAT one for you. He goes backstage and comes out with a battered guitar case, signed by Mac. Tells the guy it got crushed a bit on the bus and he can have it. Pretty cool!!

About the lead guitars-
Brad and Mark actually do play a little lead, but it's more of a textured interwoven thing as opposed to an extended "look at me" solo. Alot of Christian rock is like that- it's about worship, not so much a spotlighted show of skills. Don't get me wrong- the ABB is why I'm here and the solos knock me out, it's just a little different, that's all.

I lead a Christian Rock Band and a Christian Bluegrass Band. We do some Third Day, among many others including Rich Mullins, Michael W. Smith, Bebo Norman, etc.
For a great newer band, check out the David Crowder Band. They opened for Third Day and they friggin ROCK! Cool Anderson guitars too. Check out Anderson's Atom model. Neat guitar.

Ha! I like Third Day too....

...never expected to see a discussion here though, although, come to think of it, we have talked about other artists like Phil Keaggy and Glass Harp....

I understand your point completly.

But my point is...who says you cant worship God with some hot extended lead guitar?

I just dont get it. A lead guitar player is accused of having a "look at me" attitude if he does a verse/chorus length solo.(or longer)

And yet the lead vocalist sings all four verses, with everyone looking at him/her the whole time, and thats perfectly OK.

Doesnt make sense to me.
