PeachNutt is in Las Vegas right now, and he called to say he's found something of interest: a copy of Idlewild South autographed by all six original members of the ABB. It's at the Aladdin Hotel. Does anybody know how this thing got there? We were wondering if maybe the original owner is a poster here.

They did have some problems at some point, so I'm not sure they were always going strong. They closed to restaurant here in Atlanta. Restaurant closing does not equal success.

Well they (the company) may be doing ok now, and I'm not an economics major, but when you have to close almost 50 restaurants worldwide it's not good for PR.

Oh yeah, there was that Chapter 11 bankruptcy thing back in the late 90's too.

Marley, tell him to pay close attention to the ink. I had a guy scan and email me a picture of that same album a couple of years ago. I showed it to Kirk West and he said it was fake. The main reason was that the sig's were all done with what looked like a sharpie marker, which wasn't around back then.

I just spoke to Gary and he says it was signed with a green ballpoint ink pen...and he is hoping to find out who the original person was that got it signed and the story behind it.

Hi Folks.....Clay, I'm the guy who scanned you the pic of my album,.....but ALL my sigs are definately in Ball Point pen, which may not appear to be the case in the pic....actually, Berry's sig looks a bit "thick" in the picture, but if you were to look at it in person (as I do everyday , they are all clearly signed in BPP.
I have alot of memoralbelia, and the only sigs I questioned on this album were Duane's and Berry's, simply because I had never seen them before...until I saw the Display case for the DA reissue Les Paul.....absolutely no question about THAT sig anymore! (actually, in our previous correspondance, you felt the Duane sig was authentic), and the only question was Berry's sig....which IS in Ball point pen...... I can't imagine all these sigs are authentic except Berry's....if we are basing it on the Ball point pen theory....
I still haven't found a Berry sig to compare it to, but the ink appears to be as old as the rest of the sigs on the album... if Berry's sig was faked, it was done in 1970 or 71, which I can't imagine....
Here's the link to my album. Peace, Tom

For what's is worth...I also have a copy of Idlewild South autographed by all original members hanging in my den at home. I had it authenticaed by two independent signature experts and a forensic examiner. It looks very much like your scan, which along with the copy in Vegas, leads me to believe they may have signed multiple copies in one session.

I am out of town, but will be returning home mid-week and will post a scan of my album if you're interested. No...it's not for sale.

Nick,

It's in a huge frame which is being shipped from Las Vegas.
I'll let you know when I receive it. Want to make a trip to Long Island?

BTW - the letter of "provenance" comes from a Virginia company run by an FBI agent (or a former FBI agent). That is the company I want to speak with directly. However, I don't know the name of this company.

Wassup PeachNutt...love to see a scan.
I've got lots of signed stuff, and while each is slightly different, either in size or irregularity, you can tell (usually) if you've seen enough of 'em, if they're legit or not.
The signature on the DA les paul case is a 100% dead ringer for the one on my album, but I believe it was the Berry sig that was in question.....alot of factors are in play when it comes to autograph signings such as mood, time (hurried or not), buzz, etc.
Get a scan up of that album, Brother! Peace, Tom

Tom,

The Duane signature looks good to me. I would not have purchased it without some comfort level at what I was seeing. I've seen a few Duane signatures and was comfortable.
It's frightening how little the people at the Alladin knew about the Bros.....
it's just a bag of money to them....It will be in much better hands now
