Chaos in Brazil as U2 tickets go on sale.....

From United Press International
January 17, 2006 12:51 PM EST
SAO PAULO, Jan 17, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Brazilians waited more than 12 hours in line to buy tickets for a Sao Paulo U2 concert, but a computer glitch left tens of thousands empty-handed.

By Monday night, about 73,000 tickets had been sold for the Feb. 20 concert leaving thousands of others waiting word on a possible second show, the BBC reported.

Tickets could only be bought at Pao de Acucar supermarkets in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Fans who lined up hours before the stores opened Monday morning were further frustrated when the chain's computer system broke down.

Although some fans chanted slogans against Pao de Acucar, no violence was reported at any of the sites, the BBC said.

The tickets cost $88 each, which is about two-thirds of Brazil's minimum monthly wage, the BBC said.

Yeah, I really thought my chances to see U2 would pan out in Brazil, but someone threw a Bono in my plans!

Doesn't that soccer stadium in Sao Paulo hold like, 4.2 million people? Can't they just add a show?

Libby, I have a bono to pick with you:
Did you just make up that word "Brazillion"?

No, Peter. It's just a word that had numerical context in a funny Bush joke I received a while back.

$88 for a U2 ticket in Brazil! Without giving away my income, that would be like me paying a thousand bucks face for a U2 ticket, right? Isn't that somewhat contrarian to Bono's little soap box diatribes about helping out with Third World debt?? I am so glad he's doing his part! Just sing the damn songs we have come to love and stop w/ the preachin'!

Thank you. I was just thinking the exact same thing. I'm pretty sure Springsteen has done some internaitional shows where the ticket price is totally dependent on the cost of living in the given country.

I paid $125 for nose bleeds on the previous U2 tour.

Never again.
