While I alluded to this subject in the Derek with Eric thread, I thought we should start the new year off with a brand, spanking new thread.

There, I've said my piece now I'm running like hell.........................

It would be really nice for the two sides to kiss and make up... Maybe not necessarily reunite, but just play a few songs together onstage again.

If Derek were to miss a tour/leave the band, it seems like Dickey would be the logical choice though...

I almost reported your post to the webmaster!!! LOL!!!!

Logical choice??? Man, you must be hitting the psychedelics pretty hard over there. If we're speaking in logic then the fact that the ABB FIRED Dickey would indicate that they don't WANT him back.... EVER!!

But, you're right, a mending of the fences is certainly in order here. Whether he ever comes back to the band is a whole other issue. However, if they ever were able let the water flow under the bridge, Dickey filling in or "guesting" on a few shows would be quite a treat.

Peace

Well, my understanding...and I could be wrong...but my understanding is that they told Dickey that if he checks into a rehab clinic somewhere they wouldnt fire him, but he didnt so they did. Which would mean I guess that if he cleaned up now he could come back.

Of course, from all the reports of his recent behavior...temper tantrums on stage, throwing guitars, inconsistent performances and playing, etc...it sounds (unfortunately) like the same ole Dickey.

I sure wish that wasnt the case.

"D"

This is an arguement that stand the test of time.

Dickey vs Warren

Keith Godchaux vs Brent Midland

David Lee Roth vs Sammy Haggar

Pete Best vs Ringo

Sean Connery vs Roger Moore

Joe DiMaggio vs Mickey Mantle

Dick York vs Dick Sargent

Curley vs Shemp

Cain vs Abel

Just to name a few!

Dickey would slow this band down & keep them from trying new things. We don't need him back as a member. Special guest ?....YES, bring the Great Southern on down too Wanee? YES , return to the days of a 20 song rotation NO THANKS !

Don't Mess Up a good thing this band is leaps and bounds beyond what was playing in 99.

i love what dickey did with the band and i am eternally grateful for his contributions but nowadays, musician-wise i don't think he holds a candle to anyone in the current lineup

Believe me I love Dickey as much as everyone else. The longtime future of the band is best with the current lineup.

The current lineup took years to get where it is today, and at this late stage in the ABB's life cycle, I would be downright mystified if they changed anything. They have a good thing going, why fix it what isn't broken and start all over again with a different lineup?

If Derek's tour w/ EC conflicts w/ ABB schedule, it is infinitely more likely that either Jack Pearson or Jimmy Herring would sit in. And there are others capable of filling the bill. For reasons already cited, Dickey's return is nearly impossible at this point.

Wait... how bout Trey? OK, a joking suggestion, but a Warren and Trey show would be pretty sweet. Probably not long term, but Trey sitting in with the Brothers for a show or too woud be pretty sweet.

Trey's "on hold" as we speak - might be for a looooooooooooooong time.

Trey w/the Bros. is a line-up I wouldn't stick around for even if they set up in my back yard by the pool. As far as Dickey coming back, I have a better chance of climbing Mt. Everest on roller-skates. I'd love to see it, but I think ABB and DB are permanently divorced and both line-ups are better off where they are with their existing players. Anybody who thinks Betts is over the hill hasn't heard him for a while. I love both bands but here's a case in point - July '05 Pittsburgh - a pretty solid ABB show Sat. night - an all-out positively smoking show by Dickey the next night. I think there were some other pretty objective people from this sight who saw both shows that weekend that would agree. Betts in my book is a certified American musical icon / bad-ass.

The Brothers are way better than in 1999 and Dickey is getting to play with his son Duane. If Derek isnt available....Jimmy and Jack more than fill the bill. Ley's just enjoy what we have

No I don't get Phish. Bought a live CD about 10 years ago listened to it twice.

That Pittsburgh Dickey Betts show smoked
