In somewhat of a confession, one of my favorite shows is the Japanese Iron Chef on the Food Network. Tonight's episode featured a Japanese traditionalist versus the neo-Japanese cuisine of chef Morimoto. The challenger entered the stadium accompanied by 47 traditionalist chefs who supported his disdain of Morimoto's style.

During the match the large body of onlookers continually broke into applause and cheers for the challenger. At one point they stood and clapped in unison and the commentator said, "It's the Allman Brothers -- put your hands together!"

I thought I was hearing things -- talk about unexpected! Luckily I Tivoed the show and was able to rewind and repeat the segment to confirm that is exactly what he said. Who knew?

The secret ingredient tonight was unisex salmon. One out of 5,000 fish are born with no genitals and their energy goes into the meat rather than reproduction (sort of like sensimilla, I guess). Each fish cost more than $300 and it was quite a battle. You'll have to watch it to find out who won this grudge match ...

Hop, I'm an Iron Chef Japanese fan as well. (Ask Jeanne!) I guess I missed that episode...I'm sure I would've thought I was hearing things as well.

As for Morimoto, I'm a fan as he has a restaurant in Philly, appropriately named Morimoto's.
