LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pink Floyd fans waiting in vain for the band to reunite for a tour will have to make do with the next best thing: the first solo trek in more than 20 years by singer/guitarist David Gilmour.

A week after he announced plans to tour Europe in March, Gilmour on Monday said he would play 10 shows in five North American cities, beginning on April 4 with a two-night stand at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

The trek will also take him to Toronto (April 9-10, Massey Hall), Chicago (April 12-13, Rosemont Theater), Oakland, Calif. (April 16-17, Paramount Theater), and Los Angeles (April 19, Kodak Theater; April 20, Gibson Amphitheater).

Gilmour, 59, will be touring in support of his upcoming album, "On An Island," a follow-up to his second solo release "About Face," which came out in 1984, the last time he toured without Pink Floyd.

The new set is due in U.S. stores on March 7 via Columbia Records. The title track boasts guest vocals from David Crosby and Graham Nash. Pink Floyd keyboardist Rick Wright, Roxy Music lead guitarist Phil Manzanera, Robert Wyatt and Jools Holland also appear on the album.

Pink Floyd's reunion with estranged founder Roger Waters to play the Live 8 charity concert in London last July raised hopes that the band would hit the road for the first time since 1994. But Gilmour said in a statement, "I'm rather hoping that with this tour announcement people will believe me when I say, honestly, this is the only band I plan to tour with!"

The European trek, meanwhile, begins on March 10 in the German city of Dortmund -- four days after he turns 60 -- and proceeds through Hamburg, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Milan and Rome, before ending on May 29-30 with a sold-out two-night stand at London's Royal Albert Hall.

Got invited from a radio station to get in on the presale for Chicago - yikes!

$125, $95, last few rows in balcony $50

For $350, you get tickets in the first 20 rows, the new cd, a laminate pass, and some other merchandise.

Only tickets coming up are all the way on the sides - last row on the main floor and near the top of the balcony.

I will wait till the public sale, but it's a small place and the scalpers will get all the tickets.

Prices were similar for the Royal Albert Hall - floor sold out in advance to Amex Card holders . . . not that I would have wanted to pay that price . . . but at least my $110 got me front row on the balcony

I was really looking forward to catching this tour. But, with 10 dates in only 5 cities...my chances don't look to good now.

Damn...I was hoping he would make it down South this time around!

It really is a huge bummer for those of us that have been waiting for this one, but can't make it out to California or Chicago

The password is evidently the customer service number on the back of the AMEX card. Anyone care to share?

Here's his website. I'd suggest signing up for the mailing list. That would probably be one of the first points of distribution of the "DavidGilmour.com" password.

I think you'll find that the pre-sale was over and done with in one day and now you have to wait until Jan 14th for the general sale for which no password is required . . . don't quote me but that is how I read the info when I booked last week.

That is correct - I was just hoping that there would be some extra dates added for the US.

I bought tix for NYC show during presale, there was no prompt for a password, I bought the tix just like it was a general sale. As far as the AMEX password goes, having the customer service number alone does you no good, the tix still need to be paid for with an AMEX card for the sale to be completed.

My bro and I got tickets today to the 2nd Chicago show.

Had to employ the Beacon strategy - 2 singles a section apart.

Not bad - he got 2nd row in the balcony, I got third row, both on the left side.

Right at 11:00, nothing came up. 2 tickets didn't work, had to go for singles.

But we're in the building!

All chicago-area folks can also enter the WXRT contest. I think they're going to draw on 1/16.

They're giving away 10 pairs, I think, with one pair being in the front row.

Check out their website.
