Any suggestions for software (preferably on the cheap) I could use to split an audio file to create tracks for a CD?

Here you go - free.
Easy to use, plus it makes sure that track spilts do NOT cause sector boundary errors (SBEs)

I used this one.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/?lang=en

Have so much function to use, not only split the tracks but also edit the wave.
Of course, FREE.

I use Audacity as well. But it does not split the tracks on sector boundaries. You will need to run the files through shntool, or like, to correct sector boundary errors. You will probably not notice SBE's on your master copies but the SBE will become more noticable with copies. CDWave Editor is the program of choice. I only use Audacity because it is the only free editing software I have found to run on MAC OS X.

Peace,

Lee
