Pardon me if this has been discussed a bit lately, but I have been "out of the loop" for a while. What's the latest rumor/news/information on Derek in regards to touring with the Brothers and/or Clapton, as well as DTB?

no real new info... just a couple second hand sources saying it'll happen in spring... don't think it'll affect the brothers all that much, as they've been talking about scaling back touring (but who knows till it happens)... and the rumor appears to be mostly that the DTB will open for clapton and Derek may sit in... but again, nothing for sure until we hear something official...

Peace

DTB opening for Clapton... What a freakin show!! The tickets will be ridiculous, but if I'm going to pay out the nose, might as well do it to see musicians I really give a f*(& about.

Peace

I'm going to Town Hall next Saturday, have second row center. Would it be rude to ask him?

I respect Derek's playing but I think Clapton will be on top of his game also. It should be awesome!

Clapton was playing awfully conservatively at the Cream show last week. I was thinking about how much Derek would challenge him if he is, indeed, in Clapton's band. For the most part, Clapton doesn't go into "jam" territory anymore. I wonder if Derek will even get a chance to stretch his legs in this situation. I'll be there anyway if the tour comes my way.

I think EC will stick with his tried and true playing, not even worrying about Derek. EC is beyond trying to "keep up" or "outshine" anyone. Probably wouldn't matter here anyway, EC won't get a fair shake. All anyone will talk about is how much better Derek was, and that he blew EC away. Don't expect any fireworks from EC. Take it for what it is, good music, and don't over analyze it.

I've seen EC 3 times... the last one (summer 2004) was the best one... He ripped it up... two of my fav guitarists... I don't care who's better then who... as long as neither of them phones it in (like either would... )

If Derek is in Clapton's band, all that great Derek and the Dominoes stuff is going to come out of the closet. It would seem appropriate after Eric just reprised Cream. These guys won't need to jam, just go with the energy that is already in the material. I think they will surprise everyone! And Clapton has always responded well when pushed by another great musician.

Whether it's Derek in EC's band or dTb opening, i'm just glad Derek is getting the opportunity to do this. I think it will be great exposure for him and introduce an extrodinary guitarist to alot of new fans. After this little "gig", Derek Trucks will no longer be under the radar.

I think you nailed it, Mer. I don't see EC feeling like he's being "pushed around" or pressured by ANY guitarist. I do think the outcome from this duo will be some great music. I'm really hoping Derek tours with him on some sort of a US tour. If they don't come to Nashville, I will travel to see this pairing.

Well, it's a world tour, and I don't see Clapton changing up his band in-between Europe and USA. I have a feeling that Derek will tour with him the whole time, should make for interesting stuff. I'd love to see DTB open for Clapton as well as Derek playing with Eric, that'd be the second great opener for Eric in the last two tours (Randolph and DTB). He really knows how to pick his opening acts if thats true.
