Duane Allman's funeral was held this day 34 years ago. Those of us who were alive and aware of his music then have lived almost an entire lifetime by now.

Who among us can say that this young, skinny, orange haired boy with the walrus chops and the Coricidin bottle did not have their lives enriched profoundly by his short life.

His music will never leave us; his spirit is always with us.

It was right after my father's death in 10-72, that I discovered the ABB and learned of Duane's death and how the band persevered and carried on. In that sad time the ABB gave me the inspiration to carry on with my life, too, despite all the changes I had to go through. The music made such a strong emotional connection with me that I can scarcely listen to EAP without tears of sadness and tears of joy today after all these years.

I've got to say that the ABB today gives me the same sense of excitement that I felt in my youth. I defy anyone to listen to "Walk On Guilded Splinters" with those two slide guitars slashing like swords and the rhythm section roaring like thunder and tell me it's not every bit as good as any music the band has ever produced.

Long live the ABB!!!

I love Duane. And I love Berry. I'm old and cynical but I can't get over what they did.

Comparing pre-motorcycle crash Allman Bros. with the Beatles, and Jimi, is apples and oranges, I guess, to somebody, but not to me.

I love them. Never again, and the Lord knows I, and every other musician here, did our best to step up...

(Duane, at this point, is rolling his eyes, making frog faces, and he is about to pick on us and put us in the barrel... Wait 'til Berry gets started. He was worse than Duane.)

Bless you, gentlemen.

And thank you Masahiko. Love is everywhere. I am fortunate to be a drop of water in this ocean of love we all share together.

"His music will never leave us; his spirit is always with us."

Elizabeth, your words ring so true.

God bless Brother Duane's spirit.

Isn't it amazing the power that one's spirit and their music can have on us. When my daughter reentered my life in the fall of '01, music is one of the things that helped us grow our lives back together. She asked alot of questions about Duane & the ABB, trying to learn what made them so special to me. She ended up really digging the ABB, & we have since gone to 4 of their shows together. Their music ended up being special for us. She lost her mother that fall and she was laid to rest on 11-1-01. I believe her spirit is singing hymns to Brother Duane's sweet slide today.
