Ok, there's a "Favorite Duane's Moment" in this site, why not the same topic for Warren? (very original no?).

My favorite?

Blue Sky From An Evening With...

Look Over Yonders Wall from Roxy '98!

Warren tearing up and hugging Stephanie after playing soulshine in front of 50,000+ at Bonnaroo. I believe that was the pinnacle of Warren's career.

If it's the Soulshine he does with Vusi Mahlasela, that one makes me tear up too! It's incredibly beautiful and touching.

Backstage waaaaay after this year's Raleigh ABB show and everyone is getting ready to leave....
I don't usually go up to band members, so we're just standing there...
so Warren comes over to us and introduces himself, shakes our hand and asks our names...

That's my favorite Warren moment.

My favorite Warren moment is the first time I've ever seen the man, he walked up on stage to join Xavier Rud and played "No Woman No Cry." Which is actually the first song I ever played in front of an audience. I wondered how Warren knew?! It really hit home to see one of my all time favorites play that song for the first time I'd ever see em!

I nearly teared up.

Warren jumping down off the stage after he had just finishing soundchecking in Manchester, England. We were let in early and managed to grab a few minutes with the man and get a couple of photo's taken with him,(Check out Warren's gallery). with only about 4 or 5 other people in the room. Now that will take some beating we said to each other as he went backstage. Then 2 nights later in Newcastle we decided to go for a drink before the show in an American style bar and restaurant over the road from the venue. And low and behold who was in there but the whole of the Mule. So we get to meet up with all the band this time as they left one by one. And once again there were no more than about a dozen people in the bar. An ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE weekend. And one that will definately take some beating.

Watching WH dangle a Firebird from the strap and kicking the back of the body while Farmer fiddled with some busted piece of gear at a theater show in Manchester NH a couple years ago- plus I swear they played a chunk of 'Hocus Pocus' by Focus that night! Chuckles all around...

ABB website not able to be accessed at work lately (some sort of debug message), so posting like a madman tonite...Favorite WH moment??!! That man has mde the hairs on the back of my neck stand up so many times, but there was that one moment..

Red Rocks 7/9/04...Warren is tearing it up as usual on his guitar solo on "Rockin' Horse" when off in the distance in the clear sky above Denver lightening starts to streak across the sky. It was like Mother Nature and Warren were in sync that night. Definitly got those hairs stand up...BTW: if anyone was at that show, please tell me I didn't imagine that!!

1995 getting the chance to Warren, Allen and Matt at Birch Hill in Old Bridge NJ. They were really cool and took the time before and after the show.

Standing two feet from the man himself, outside the "Rainforest Preserve" in Utica, NY, on a cold December evening and being too damned stoned to say a word to him. It was about 30 minutes before the original 'Mule took the stage. The year was 1995 and there was maybe 150 people in the bar. My buddies and I, including SmatterMonnat, had a great time and were about 20 feet from the stage. Smattermonnat has a sound board copy of the show. I'll never forget Woody ranting about the roadie giving him a pink pick between songs....funny as hell. I always remember how surprised I was at how short Warren was. I still kick myself in the ass for not saying something to him.

A couple of very early day Warren/Mule moments stand out for me....

First, seeing The Mule at Wetlands in 1995. Wetlands is a VERY tiny club in NYC and the stage is literally a foot high. They were a brand new band at the time and there was quite a buzz inside. My buddy who I was with is 6 foot 5 and we were so close to the band that Allen Woody hit him in the head with the headstock of his bass . Pretty funny...Got to talk with Warren up close and personal...

Also, I heard Warren was going to be in studio at our local NJ rock radio station WDHA FM. This was like 1997 or so - right after "Dose" came out...so I drove down there and snuck my way into the studio. Warren was playing a short acoustic set and I was peaking through the glass doors to the studio while he was playing and the DJ hosting the show was looking at me like "Hey I wonder who that guy is". After the segment I saw Warren in the hallway and introduced myself and he was laughing because he said he could see me peaking while he was playing. Later on in the parking lot Warren came over to my car and asked me if I knew how to get to Allentown, PA. where they were playing that night...I'm pretty sure I sent him the right way, lol!.

Yep, love his solos on both of them. If you want to see/hear Warren on one of his BEST "Desdemona" solos ever, just throw on The Beacon DVD - just beautiful! It is dripping with tasty riffs. I love The Warren/Derek Yin/Yang thing on "Desdemona"...and "Rockin Horse" too. Two entirely different approaches, but both very effective. The Blue Sky solo that was mentioned is good too but Waren plays even better now - 14 years later...

Here's a great topic that deserves a good bump! LOL!

I love all the gracious moments from Waren. The many invites to share the stage. I'm with Krishna that those backstage experiences have special meaning... I still shake my head with a "WOW" thinking back to a Worcester Palladium show when I wanted Warren to play Cat Fish Blues which I hadn't heard live in a while and was just turning to leave the floor to head to the restroom when opening notes started. I turned back with a look of stun and he gave one of those amazing looks! That's a story I share quite a bit cause it really was unexpected. I had actually posted it here in a thread about what songs would you like to hear just before the show so it was a very special moment for me. Here's the picture that Chris Rushin took from that show....

Meeting Warren after Gov't Mule recorded a show at the XM Studio in DC. I told him about some of the great guitar players I had seen at The Warner Theatre over the years. James Burton, Lowell George, Jerry Garcia, Frank Zappa, Johnny Winter and Jorma Kaukonen were talked about, his eyes really lit up when I mentioned that I saw James Burton playing with Emmylou Harris.
